⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessThe Asotin County Sheriff Office is the responsible body for the Asotin County Jail, where all offenders who are charged and arrested in the county will wait for their trial or serve a short sentence which is only a few months in length. The small holding facility has a capacity of 47, but in the event of an emergency they can house 58 for a short period of time. When not full, the facility allows probation violators from the Washington Department of Corrections to be housed there, which helps to offset the cost of operation.
Note that a new 144-bed facility on Sixth Avenue in Clarkson Heights is almost completed and will be ready in the spring of 2025. It will have the ability to increase its capacity to 256 beds without altering the floor plan.
The current small white building is located directly across from the City Hall, and it extends to include the Sheriff Offices as well as the Clarkston Police. Standing only one story high the areas that do have windows have short windows that are positioned near the midpoint of the building, providing natural light to inside the jail.

Some services are contracted out, including the medical services, dental services, mental health, and more. Other programs are offered by volunteers, and there is a small commissary and library. The facility also offers work release for those who qualify to be able to maintain their current job and return to the facility at the end of the shift each day and continue to serve their sentence, as well as supervising the home detention program.
Additionally, inmate workers are used for several community projects, including working at the landfill, the courthouse, litter control, weed control, and other services for the county and local non-profit organizations. Some inmates are permitted to work in community services and work with nonprofit organizations to support their efforts.
Mail is permitted and is both delivered to and picked up from the jail every weekday by the USPS, and it will be checked both upon arrival and outgoing mail is checked before it is sent. All mail must have the correct address /city-and-county-jails/washington/asotin-county/asotin-county-jail/mail-an-inmate and there must be a full return address or it will be denied.
Money orders may be included in mail to fund the commissary account of inmates which supports the purchase of hygiene and other items, phone time, and other purchases. The phones that are in the housing areas are able to make outgoing calls only, but they are accessible to inmates each day of the week.
