Goshen County Inmate Search: Finding Someone in the Torrington Jail

The Sheriff's Office runs the Goshen County Detention Center at 2120 East B Street, Torrington, WY 82240. It opened in 1997 and holds up to 90 people, including prisoners for the state, the U.S. Marshals, immigration officials, the Air Force and the Torrington and Lingle police. This page shows how to find someone inside and how calls, visits, money and mail work.

To look someone up, open the county's online prisoner listing, which shows current inmates and recent bookings. The statewide VINE search is a second place to try, and it can send you free updates by text, email or phone.

The quickest answer comes from Central Control at 307-532-5917. Share the person's full name and birthday so staff can find them, then ask about charges and bond. Release costs sit on our bail page, while hearing dates sit on our court page.

1. How do I search for someone in the Goshen County jail?

  1. Open the county's prisoner listing, which the Sheriff links for current inmates and recent bookings.
  2. Type the last name and look for a match. Some charges don't show until the person has been arraigned.
  3. If you can't find them, call the jail at 307-532-5917 with their full name and birthday.
  4. For release-date questions, the phone is the best route.

Wyoming law (W.S. 7-19-106(m)) lets a county jail share a person's name, photo, location and release dates, so staff can usually answer basic questions.

2. What if their name doesn't come up?

  • Booking is still going on. Give it a few hours, then check again.
  • They bonded out or got a ticket and went home.
  • Someone else made the arrest. Troopers and federal agents sometimes book people into other jails.
  • The listing hasn't refreshed, or the name is spelled another way.

A phone call clears up most of these. The Sheriff's administrative office answers at 307-532-4026.

3. Which other jails are close by?

The Torrington jail is the only adult lockup the county runs. Someone picked up on a trip or wanted elsewhere could be in a neighboring jail:

4. Are Goshen County booking photos public?

Every person booked gets photographed. Wyoming allows the jail to release the picture without forcing it to (W.S. 7-19-106(m)). Call the Sheriff's administrative office at 307-532-4026 to ask about a copy.

For a state prisoner's photo, contact the Department of Corrections at 307-777-5889. Immigration files are requested through ICE's online records form.

5. How can I get a release notice?

Sign up with VINE for free updates by text, email or phone call. You can also enroll at 866-994-8463. The county's Victim Assistance Program, 2125 East A Street, Torrington, WY 82240, 307-532-4428, helps crime victims get the notice the law requires before a release.

6. How do you post bond here?

  • Weekdays during business hours: pay at the court that set the bond.
  • Nights, weekends and holidays: Circuit and District Court bonds can be paid at the Detention Center.
  • Torrington city bonds: these go to the City, not the jail. Pay at City Court, 307-532-3966, or at the police department any time. Then bring the receipt to the jail.

Bring cash unless the court order allows another form of payment. The jail only takes bonds set by Wyoming courts. Our bail guide explains each type.

7. What are they accused of?

The prisoner listing shows charges, though some appear only after arraignment. The County Attorney's office can also help at 307-532-4223. Court records hold the official charges:

  • District Court (felony cases): Clerk's office, Suite 236 in that building, 307-532-2155, weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

8. Can they get a lawyer for free?

Yes, if they can't pay. The person asks the judge to appoint one. People in custody without money, or people on aid like Medicaid, are expected to qualify (W.S. 7-6-106). The State Public Defender's head office can point you to the right local office: 316 West 22nd Street, Cheyenne, WY 82002, 307-777-7519. Relatives are free to pay for a private attorney instead.

  • Mail cash, a money order or a bank cashier's check addressed to the prisoner.

Wyoming law prefers releasing children to a parent. Holding a youth needs a court order or a real safety or flight risk, and police must notify a parent quickly (W.S. 14-6-206).
