Sublette County Detention Center Inmate Search
Sublette County Inmate Search: Finding Someone in the Pinedale Jail
Anyone arrested in the county is booked into the Sublette County Detention Center, 35 1/2 S. Tyler, Pinedale, WY 82941. It opened in 2004 and has four housing pods with space for 52 people. The Sheriff's Office makes nearly every arrest, since the towns have no police departments. This page shows how to search, visit, send money and mail, and what comes next.
Type the person's name into the official inmate search. The Sheriff also keeps an Active Inmate Roster on the county website and a live roster in the Sheriff's phone app. If you can't spot the name, try another spelling.
For anything the search can't answer, call the jail at 307-367-4378. Ask about the charges and whether bond is set. Release costs are laid out on our Sublette County bail page, while hearings are on our court page.
1. How do I search the Sublette County jail roster?
- Type the person's name into the official inmate search. The county website also has the Sheriff's Active Inmate Roster, a list of everyone held at the Detention Center right now.
- Look for the person's last name. If you don't see it, try another spelling.
- The Sheriff's phone app, released in 2020 for iPhone and Android, also has a live roster.
- Call 307-367-4378 to double-check, or to ask about charges and bond.
Wyoming lets jails share an inmate's name, where they're kept and when they're due out (W.S. 7-19-106(m)). Staff can usually answer those simple questions on the phone.
↑ Back to the question list2. Why can't I spot them on the roster?
- Booking isn't finished. Paperwork, prints and photos come first. Check again later, or call.
- They were released. They may have posted bail, signed a promise to appear or gotten a ticket.
- Someone else is holding them. The Highway Patrol, a federal agency or a nearby county might have taken them to another jail.
- The spelling is different from the one you're using.
The jail also rents empty cells to other counties and to the U.S. Marshals. So the roster can include people arrested somewhere else, and a local person could be on someone else's case. When in doubt, call the jail at 307-367-4378.
↑ Back to the question list3. Could they be in a jail outside Sublette County?
The Pinedale Detention Center is the only county jail. If the person was traveling or is wanted elsewhere, they could be at one of these neighboring jails:
- Teton County Detention Center, 175 S Willow Street, Jackson, WY 83001, 307-733-2141.
- Lincoln County Detention Center, 1040 Justice Center Drive, Suite A, Kemmerer, WY 83101, 307-877-2169.
- Sweetwater County Detention Center, 50140 US Highway 191 South, Rock Springs, WY 82901, booking 307-352-4935.
- Fremont County Detention Center, 460 Railroad St, Lander, WY 82520, 307-332-1858.
When a judge from elsewhere sets bond over a video link, family gets a 24-hour window to pay before the person is driven away (W.R.Cr.P. 46.1(g)).
↑ Back to the question list4. Can I see their booking photo?
A booking photo, or mugshot, is taken when someone is brought into jail. The Sheriff's Office posts a weekly "MugShot Monday" arrest list on the county website. That list starts with a reminder that a charge is only an accusation, and everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Wyoming allows jails to release a photo and description, but doesn't require it (W.S. 7-19-106(m)). To ask for a photo, call the Sheriff's main office at 307-367-4372. The Sheriff charges $5 for photos on a CD. Photos of state prisoners come from the Department of Corrections, 307-777-7208.
↑ Back to the question list5. Can I be told when they get out or move?
The Sheriff's app can send push notifications, and it carries the jail roster too. For a specific person, the most reliable answer still comes from the jail at 307-367-4378.
Wyoming has a free statewide notice service called VINE, which sends calls, texts or emails when custody changes. Ask the jail whether this facility's records appear there before you count on it, or call VINE at 866-994-8463. Crime victims can also get help with updates from the County Attorney's Victim/Witness Division at 307-367-2300.
↑ Back to the question list6. How does release from jail work here?
A judge sets bail at the first court date. Some small offenses have fixed amounts from $85 to $450 on the state schedule. Once you know the amount, the Sheriff's Office accepts cash, a card over the phone at 877-392-2455 (a 5.25% fee), or a card online (a 5% fee). Use the bail link on the county's money and bail page.
Call 307-367-4378 before paying to confirm the amount and any other holds. Our county bail guide covers bondsmen, refunds and town tickets.
↑ Back to the question list7. Where do I learn the charges?
The jail can usually give you the booking charge when you call. The formal charge is filed with the court. For misdemeanors and new felonies, call the Circuit Court at 307-367-2556. Its office is in the Justice Building at 40 South Fremont, Pinedale, WY 82941.
Once a felony is bound over, ask the District Court clerk at 307-367-4376. The weekly MugShot Monday list may also show who was arrested and why.
↑ Back to the question list8. Who will defend them in court?
The judge brings up appointed counsel at the person's first appearance. Wyoming bases this on income and whether the person is held without money to spend (W.S. 7-6-106). The public defender office serving this county is in Jackson, 80 E. Pearl Ave, 2nd Floor, Jackson, WY 83001, 307-733-1067.
The prosecutor's office can't answer legal questions, so families should talk to the defense lawyer. The Access to Justice Center in Jackson, 307-734-9023, can point you to other legal help.
↑ Back to the question list9. What are the visiting rules at the Pinedale jail?
In-person visits are by appointment only. Call 307-367-4378 and press 3 to book one. The rules:
- Bring a valid ID, and be over 18.
- People on probation, parole or out on bond can't visit.
- All visits are through glass, with no contact.
- Only two visitors at a time, for 20 minutes.
- Dress modestly, and come sober. The inmate can refuse any visitor.
Visit times rotate by housing pod on Saturdays and Sundays, with evening slots Thursday and Friday. Ask for the current times when you call. You can also do video visits from home for $0.30 a minute. Our visiting guide offers more general advice.
↑ Back to the question list10. Can family fund a Sublette County inmate's account?
Money for snacks and supplies goes into the inmate's account, which the county labels "NOT BOND PAYMENT." You can bring cash or a money order to the jail, or mail a money order. Cards work too: by phone at 888-604-7888 with a 3.75% fee, or online through the separate deposit link the county provides.
Phone, video and message money goes into a separate prepaid account, explained in the next section. See our money guide and commissary guide for more.
↑ Back to the question list11. How do phone calls and messages work?
Inmates can call out once booking is done. Each housing area has phones for private use. They can't get incoming calls, though approved inmates can receive voicemail. Three-way calls aren't allowed.
Family sets up one prepaid account that covers calls, video visits and messages. You'll find the link on the county's Inmate Phone System page. The support line is 800-943-2189, open all day, every day. Calls in the U.S. cost $0.16 a minute with no connection fee. Text messages are $0.25 and picture or video messages are $0.35. Calls are recorded, so don't discuss the case. Our phone guide has more.
↑ Back to the question list12. What address do letters go to?
Start the address with the inmate's full name. On the next line, write "C/O Sublette County Detention Center." Send it to P.O. Box 701, Pinedale, WY 82941. Always include your full name and complete return address. Letters without one are returned or thrown away.
Don't send cash, and ask the jail at 307-367-4378 about photos, books and legal mail before mailing them. Our mail guide covers common rules.
↑ Back to the question list13. How do we get their belongings back?
Staff inventory and store a person's items when they're booked, and return them on release. If someone in jail wants a relative to pick up keys, a phone or other things, call the jail at 307-367-4378 to ask how property release works. Bring a photo ID when you come.
Items held as evidence stay with the Sheriff's Office until the case allows their release.
↑ Back to the question list14. What if they're sick or need medication?
Jails must provide needed medical care. If the person takes daily medication, has a serious condition or was hurt during the arrest, call 307-367-4378 right away and ask for the shift supervisor. Be ready to list each prescription and its dose, along with the doctor's phone number.
If you think they're in danger and staff aren't helping, a defense lawyer can raise it with the court.
↑ Back to the question list15. Is there a Sublette County warrant for them?
The Sheriff's Warrant Team handles warrants from the county's courts and posts a weekly Active Warrants List. Call the team at 307-367-5237, weekdays from 8 to 5. Because Wyoming lacks a statewide warrant database, clerks will check names over the phone too. Going in voluntarily with an attorney is the safest way to deal with it. You can also ask about getting the hearing reset. Contact the Circuit Court clerk at 40 South Fremont, Pinedale, WY 82941, 307-367-2556.
↑ Back to the question list16. When do they go back to court?
It should be on the release paperwork. You can also call the court clerk:
- Circuit Court (misdemeanors and a felony's first hearings): 307-367-2556
- District Court clerk, for felony trials: 307-367-4376
- Pinedale Municipal Court, for town tickets: 307-367-4136
For what each hearing means, read our court guide.
↑ Back to the question list17. How do I find someone held on federal charges?
Wyoming has one federal trial court for criminal charges, the U.S. District Court, 2120 Capitol Avenue, Room 2131, Cheyenne, WY 82001, 307-433-2120. Before trial, the U.S. Marshals keep federal prisoners in local jails that rent space. The Pinedale jail is one of them.
Whether they wait for trial at home or behind bars is settled at a detention hearing (18 U.S.C. 3142). After sentencing, search the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator.
↑ Back to the question list18. How do I find someone ICE picked up?
- When ICE wants someone held, it gives the jail Form I-247A.
- After that, the person can be held up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released (8 CFR 287.7(d)).
- Immigration officers transfer them to a federal detention facility.
- Search for them on the ICE Online Detainee Locator with their A-number or exact name and birth country.
If you can't find them, call ICE's Denver Field Office, 12445 E. Caley Avenue, Centennial, CO 80111, 720-873-2899. That office serves Wyoming as well as Colorado.
↑ Back to the question list19. Where does a person serve a prison term?
Someone sentenced to prison on a felony is transferred out of the county jail and into the custody of the Wyoming Department of Corrections. The WDOC locator lets you search with a name or an offender number. Our Wyoming prisons section covers each facility. WDOC is at 1934 Wyott Drive, Suite 100, Cheyenne, WY 82002, 307-777-7208.
Probation officers work out of the Justice Building, 40 S. Fremont Ave., Pinedale, WY 82941.
↑ Back to the question list20. What if a Sublette County child is arrested?
Kids are kept apart from adult inmates. By law, the goal is to hand a detained child over to a parent or another trusted adult quickly, unless a court says otherwise or the child is a danger or likely to run (W.S. 14-6-206). A child who stays in custody gets a hearing in front of a judge within 48 hours, leaving out Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays (W.S. 14-6-209).
Every case involving someone under 18 goes to the County Attorney's Juvenile Division, and the hearings are closed. Families searching for a missing teen in custody can reach the Sheriff's Office at 307-367-4372.
↑ Back to the question list21. Which agency made the arrest in Sublette County?
The county has three towns and a lot of open country. These agencies can make arrests here:
- Sublette County Sheriff's Office, 21 South Tyler Ave., Pinedale, WY 82941, 307-367-4372. Deputies cover all three towns and the rural areas. The 911 center is staffed around the clock.
- Sheriff's Marbleton office, for Marbleton and Big Piney, 307-276-5448.
- Wyoming Highway Patrol, which arrests people on state highways. Statewide dispatch is 307-317-4524.
For a police report, call the Sheriff's Office. A copy of a report costs $3.
