It is highly recommended that prior to an inmate visit you call the jail at 831-454-2434 to confirm that visits have not been cancelled.

Santa Cruz County Main Jail Visiting Hours, Schedule and Instructions

Step 1

Give your inmate your full name, birthdate, address and phone number so he or she can submit you for the visitation list. A background check will be run, which can take up to 10 days to complete. Once approved, you may schedule a visit.

Step 2

Call (831) 454-2177 to schedule the visit at least 24 hours prior to the desired visitation day.

Step 3

Arrive 15 minutes before visitation, otherwise you visit might be cancelled.

Step 4

Bring a valid, government-issued, photo ID for yourself and a birth certificate or guardianship papers for any minors who will be visiting.

Step 5

Leave your belongings in the vehicle or in the lockers provided by the jail. Lockers are 0.25 each and must be emptied when the visit is completed.

Who Can Visit an Inmate in Santa Cruz County Main Jail

Anyone over the age of 18, who has been approved for the visitor list, has a visit scheduled and can show a valid ID can visit an inmate at this facility.

Exceptions: Anyone who has been in custody within the past 60 days, is on parole or formal probation, has a warrant or restraining order prohibiting contact may not visit.

Up to six people can visit an inmate at the same time. Children count as visitors.

The Santa Cruz County Main Jail reserves the right to deny any person the right to enter the jail it chooses and for any reason.

The Santa Cruz County Main Jail staff will turn anyone away who is not dressed appropriately for a visit.

The best way to be sure the visit takes place is to dress as if you are meeting someone's grandmother for the first time. 

Wear clothes that are not revealing.

Don't wear see-through material.

Have all undergarments covered (males and females) and avoid a lot of cleavage.

Shorts and skirts should reach mid-thigh.

Sleeves should be at least half-way to your elbow.

The following types of clothing are also prohibited:

Clothing promoting gang affiliation.

Anything displaying drugs, weapons or profanity.

Clothing depicting anything obscene.

Santa Cruz County Main Jail Visitation Tips, Rules and Guidelines

The following items may be brought to the inmate on visitation day: stationary, stamps, Walkman radio, batteries, sunglasses, fanny pack, books, magazines, 6 CD/cassettes, address book, tennis shoes, sandals, craft items, 1 plain hat with no logos.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and guardians must provide proof of their guardianship.

Leave all personal belongings, except for your state ID in your vehicle or in a locker (if one is provided).

Children must be monitored at all times or jail staff will end the visit early.
