Every detail on this page is checked by hand, not scraped. This unofficial directory helps friends and family of incarcerated individuals find critical information — inmate lists, locations, bail resources, visitation hours, rules, and text, phone, email, and mail services — for jails, detention centers, and prisons across the United States.
Looking for someone in custody? The inmate search tool shows everyone currently held at the 100-bed Butler County Correctional Facility, and staff can answer questions around the clock at 334-382-3321.
Anyone arrested in the county on misdemeanor or felony charges comes through this facility for booking and processing. Depending on the charges, they may be held until they are bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or kept in custody until their trial is over.
People sentenced to under a year serve that time at this jail. Longer sentences are served in the Alabama State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page covers the visitation schedule, adding funds to an inmate’s account, mail rules, phone calls from inmates, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, how to post bail, and commissary orders.
Keep the inmate’s jail ID or booking number handy, because most mail and messaging services require it. If you can’t find it online, call Butler County Correctional Facility at 334-382-3321.

Although the Butler County Correctional Facility is licensed for 100 inmates, it frequently holds more than that, particularly on weekends. City and county jails typically turn over at least 40% of their population every month, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, with roughly 8-9% staying six to twelve months. Inmates who stay longer than a year are usually charged with serious crimes like murder or rape. Those cases take a long time to prepare for trial, so offenders arrested in Butler County for them stay in the Butler County facility much longer.
Butler County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 2,000 offenders every year.
The Butler County Correctional Facility is the county jail for Butler County, run by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff David Scruggs. It sits at 800 Walnut Street in Greenville, just across the street from the sheriff’s office at 801 Walnut Street. The jail’s number is (334) 382-3321; the sheriff’s office answers at (334) 382-6521, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. With about 100 beds, it holds men and women arrested on misdemeanor and felony charges while their cases move forward, along with people serving county sentences of less than a year. Anyone sentenced to longer terms is transferred to the Alabama Department of Corrections or the federal system.
After booking, the person must be taken before a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours of arrest, as Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3 requires. Butler County cases are heard in the Second Judicial Circuit, which also covers Crenshaw and Lowndes counties. To find out whether a loved one is in custody, download the Butler County Sheriff’s Office app (apps.myocv.com/share/a24536037), which carries the jail roster, or call the jail. Court case details are on Alacourt. If you think there’s a warrant out for you, contact the sheriff’s office or an attorney before turning yourself in.
Most people in Alabama have a right to bail. A judge can deny it in capital cases when the proof is evident or the presumption great, and under Aniah’s Law (2022) after a pretrial detention hearing for murder, first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson, robbery, aggravated child abuse and certain offenses against children, and terrorism. Voters added solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle in May 2026 (Amendment 1, 81.6% yes). Rule 7.2’s recommended schedule runs $10,000–$60,000 for a Class A felony, $5,000–$30,000 for Class B, $300–$6,000 for a Class A misdemeanor, and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI, though judges can go higher or lower. Release may come on personal recognizance, an unsecured appearance bond, or a secured bond. Bond can be posted at the jail or at the court with cash, a cashier’s check, a money order, real estate, or through a licensed bail company; personal checks are not accepted. Call the jail for the bond amount before you come.
Visits are by video through Inmate Sales, and you must register first at inmatesales.com or (877) 998-5678. On-site video visits at the jail are free, last 20 minutes, and run 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. daily; each inmate is assigned one visitation day a week, and up to three visitors may join a session. Bring a valid government photo ID, keep children with you at all times, and skip low-cut tops, tank tops, short skirts or dresses, tight shorts, and hats. Remote visits from home cost $0.20 a minute and are open 6:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m.
No public bus serves the jail; most visitors drive. For gas, the Sunoco at 100 N. College Street is close to downtown, and the Chevron at 938 Fort Dale Road is near I-65. Smash Mouth Foods at 219 Cedar Street serves burgers nearby, and Zaxby’s is at 900 Fort Dale Road.
