Everyone arrested goes through booking and then, under Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3, must see a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours. Anyone who suspects there is a warrant for them should contact the sheriff’s office or a lawyer first rather than simply showing up.
Under the Alabama Constitution most defendants are entitled to bail. The exceptions are capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great, and the crimes covered by Aniah’s Law (2022), where a judge can deny bail after a detention hearing: murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson and robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain crimes against children; and terrorism. In May 2026 voters passed Amendment 1 with 81.6% support, adding solicitation, attempt or conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. Release can be on personal recognizance, an unsecured appearance bond, or a secured bond in cash, property or through a bail bond company. Rule 7.2’s schedule suggests, for example, $5,000–$30,000 for a Class B felony and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI, but the judge can set a different amount. The jail accepts cash, credit cards and money orders, and can tell you the amount.

On-site kiosk visits are free, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to noon, for up to two visitors plus one child under 6. Remote visits run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and cost about $7.50 for 30 minutes plus a $2.00 connection fee. No public bus serves Evergreen, so drive. For gas, Country Express is at 401 Perryman St and Chevron is at 831 Liberty Hill Dr. Church’s Texas Chicken at 312 E Front St and Hardee’s at 845 Liberty Hill Dr are nearby for a meal.
