Visiting Hours in Russell County Jail
The actual visiting hours vary depending on the following factors:
Russell County Jail Visitation Application Process
Russell County Jail requires all visitors to be approved by both the inmate and the jail prior to visiting your inmate, even if the visit is a remote video visit.
Incomplete information on any application is cause for denial.
Honesty, especially regarding past criminal convictions, probation etc., is important. These things will most likely show up on a background check, if one is done - which if lied about - will cause visits to be denied.

Who can Visit an Inmate at Russell County Jail
Anyone over the age of 18, who isn't on felony probation and can produce a valid government-issued photo ID can be approved to visit an inmate in this jail.
Visitation applicants in Russell County County must sometimes submit to a background check. Those with warrants are denied visitation or if allowed to visit, will be arrested at the jail.
Children under age 18 must be accompanied by the parent or legal guardian.
It is likely that the Russell County Jail will deny visitation to anyone with a past felony conviction regardless of probation/parole status. Call 334-298-8621 prior to arriving for the specific jail guideline regarding your legal status.
If you are a co-defendant with the inmate in a pending case, your visit will be denied.
If you and the inmate are under a court order to have no contact with each other, your visit will be denied.
The Russell County Jail reserves the right to deny any person the right to enter the jail (or take part in remote video visits), and for any reason.
Russell County Jail Visitation Dress Code
The Russell County Jail staff will turn anyone away who is not dressed appropriately for a visit.
The best way to be sure the visit takes place is to dress as if you are meeting someone's grandmother for the first time.
Remote Video visitation is no different. If you are not dressed discretely, your visit will be terminated. Future visits could also be affected.
The following types of clothing are also prohibited:
Visitation Tips and Guidelines
Jail visits are conducted in person behind plexi-glass or remotely, either from home or on-site at Russell County Jail.
All video visits are both monitored in real time and are recorded. Whatever you talk about, can and will be used against your inmate in court. Never discuss their pending criminal case!
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and guardians must provide proof of their guardianship.
If you are visiting on-site at the jail, leave all personal belongings, except for your state ID, in your vehicle or in a locker (if one is provided).
At the jail, children must be monitored at all times or jail staff will end the visit early.
There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:
Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Russell County Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use the NCIC self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Russell County Jail uses NCIC to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. NCIC charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order. Mail it to the Russell County Jail address on this page, or to the address below if it is different than the facility address.

Option 4 - Make an Inmate Deposit over the Phone by calling 800-943-2189
