Winston County Jail Inmate Search
We’ve created a set of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about finding an inmate in the Winston County Jail, how jail rosters work, and the process after an offender is arrested and booked. For further assistance, call 205-489-5205.
The Winston County Jail is licensed for 50 inmates, but it often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails turn over at least 40% of their inmates monthly, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, while approximately 8-9% stay six to twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder, and because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Winston County remain in custody at the Winston County facility much longer.
Law enforcement agencies in Winston County arrest and detain approximately 1,000 offenders every year.
The Winston County Jail is at 11 Blake Drive in Double Springs, in the same building as Sheriff Caleb Snoddy’s Winston County Sheriff’s Office. It is a small jail with about 50 beds, and it can stretch to 60 when crowded. Most people here are awaiting trial or sentencing, and people with sentences under a year may serve their time here. The county runs a work release program, which you can reach at (205) 489-2033. Call the jail at (205) 489-5205 or email corrections@winstonal.gov.
Winston County shares the 25th Judicial Circuit with Marion County. People arrested here see a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours (Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3). Use VINELink to confirm someone is in custody and Alacourt to follow the case. If there’s a warrant, talk with the sheriff’s office or an attorney before turning yourself in.
Alabama’s Constitution gives most defendants the right to bail. Capital offenses are the exception when proof is evident or the presumption great. Aniah’s Law (2022) added hearing-based detention for murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson, and robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain offenses against children; and terrorism. In May 2026, Amendment 1 (81.6% yes) added solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. Rule 7.2 recommends $10,000–$60,000 for a Class A felony, $5,000–$30,000 for Class B, $300–$6,000 for a Class A misdemeanor, and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI, and judges can go higher or lower. Release may be on recognizance, an unsecured appearance bond, or a secured bond. The jail accepts cash, credit card, money order, or property in the county, and licensed bondsmen can also write bonds. Call the jail for the amount.

Each inmate is assigned one day a week, and up to three visitors can come. Bring a state or government photo ID, leave hats, tank tops, low-cut tops, and short skirts at home, and keep children under 17 with an adult at all times. Remote visits cost about 20 cents a minute and are available 6 a.m.–11 p.m. daily. No public bus serves Double Springs. For gas, there’s Chevron at 14908 Highway 74 and Texaco at 234 Main Street. Jack’s at 15266 U.S. 278 and Subway at 26285 Highway 195 are nearby for food.
