Marion County Jail Inmate Search

Everything you need to know about finding an inmate in the Marion County Jail is in our Frequently Asked Questions and Answers, including how jail rosters work and what happens after arrest and booking. Still unsure? Call 205-921-7433.

The Marion County Jail is licensed for 86 inmates, but it is often forced to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails turn over their population on this schedule:

  • At least 40% monthly
  • Another 30% every 90 days
  • Another 20% every six months
  • About 8-9% remain six to twelve months

Offenders held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Marion County remain in custody at the Marion County facility much longer.

Every year, approximately 1,720 offenders are arrested and detained by Marion County law enforcement agencies.

About the Marion County Jail

Marion County opened a new jail in September 2025. The Marion County Jail is now at 842 Industrial Drive in the Bedford Industrial Park in Hamilton. The $13–17 million building also houses the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the county Emergency Management Agency. It holds more than 200 people and replaces the crowded jail on Winchester Drive that dated to 1979. If you have an older address or an old map pin, it will send you to the wrong place. The jail’s 24-hour number has not changed: (205) 921-7433.

The sheriff’s office posts a current roster and a 48-hour release list at marionsoal.com/inmate-roster, plus a most wanted page at marionsoal.com. The jail holds adult men and women, including people awaiting trial, people serving county time, and state-sentenced inmates waiting on transfer. Medical care is provided by Quality Correctional Health Care. Under Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3, anyone arrested must see a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours. Marion and Winston counties together make up the 25th Judicial Circuit, and Alacourt (v2.alacourt.com) lists the charges and court dates. If there is a warrant for you, call the sheriff’s office or a lawyer before you turn yourself in.

In Alabama, most people held before trial have a right to bail. A judge may deny it only in a capital case with strong proof, or, after a detention hearing, in the cases covered by Aniah’s Law (2022): murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson and robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain offenses against children; and terrorism. A May 2026 amendment approved by 81.6% of voters added solicitation, attempt or conspiracy to commit murder, and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. Amounts start from the Rule 7.2 schedule (for example, $5,000–$30,000 for a Class B felony and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI) but can go up or down. The court may release someone on personal recognizance or an unsecured appearance bond, or require a secured bond in cash, property or through a licensed bail bond company. Call the jail for amounts.

NCIC runs visitation. The new building has an on-site video visitation room, and remote video visits from home cost about $0.25 a minute plus a connection fee. Book visits at least 24 hours ahead at videovisit.ncic.com or call NCIC at (800) 943-2189. Bring government-issued photo ID. Children must be with a parent or legal guardian who has a birth certificate or other proof. Because the jail has moved, confirm on-site visiting hours with the jail first. No public bus serves the jail; most visitors drive. The closest gas is Watha’s Texaco at 215 Bexar Ave E, and Heritage Chevron is at 1705 Military St S. For food, McDonald’s is at 1394 Military St S and Jack’s Family Restaurant is at 1687 Military St S.

Mail has gone to the person’s full name and inmate number, Marion County Jail, P.O. Box 1387, Hamilton, AL 35570. Personal mail is limited to plain white, pre-metered postcards, while legal mail may come in envelopes and books must ship from the publisher. Call to confirm the mailing address is still current after the move. NCIC also handles phones and deposits: go to ncic.com, call (800) 943-2189, or use the kiosk at the jail. Families can’t bring outside clothing to the jail.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Marion County Jail?

How Do I put Money on an Inmate's Commissary Account in the Marion County Jail to Purchase Phone Cards?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Marion County Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use the NCIC self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Marion County Jail uses NCIC to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. NCIC charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.  Mail it to the Marion County Jail address on this page, or to the address below if it is different than the facility address.
