Marion County Jail INMATE & FAMILY SERVICES

The Marion County Jail in the city of Hamilton, Marion County, Alabama is a maximum-security facility. Because the inmates in this jail range from low level, misdemeanor offenders to those being held for violent crimes like robbery, rape and murder, the security level has to be as high as is it would be in any maximum-security state prison. 

Some of the security features in this facility include security cameras, electronic detection and reinforced fencing topped with razor wire. Correctional officers in Marion County Jail are armed with mace and trained to use physical force to protect themselves and other inmates from violence. 

The men and women being held in the Marion County Jail are either awaiting trial or have been sentenced in the Marion County Court System already and been sentenced to one year or less. 

When an inmate is sentenced to a year or more, they are transferred to the Alabama State Prison or the Federal Bureau of Prisons

Illegal immigrants may be transferred into ICE custody and are then deported.

Inmates in the Marion County Jail are fed three meals a day totaling 2,500 calories, are allowed access to phones to contact friends and family members, are allowed at least one hour a day for exercise, have access to books, a legal library, and bathroom and shower facilities. 

The inmates are allowed mail to be delivered to them as well as newspapers and magazines from trusted outside publishers.

VISITS

CLOTHING DROP-OFF

The Marion County Jail will allow you to drop off clothing items for your inmate, but only for NEW inmates, and can only be brought into the Marion County Jail on Tuesdays and Saturdays between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. All clothing items must be white or gray. All clothing items must be NEW. New inmates must receive clothes within 5 days of arrest. After someone has been incarcerated for more than 5 days, no clothes will be accepted.

The only items that are allowed into the Marion County Jail are as follows:
3 pairs of underwear
3 pairs of socks
1 pair of sweatpants or shorts
1 Plain Sweatshirt - No Hoodies or Zippers
1 T-Shirt
Female Inmates are also allowed 2 Bras - No wire
