About the Cordova Community Jail
The Cordova Community Jail in Alaska is a minimum-security facility with a capacity of around 109 inmates and an average daily population of 113 inmates. It has been operational since 1993 and is staffed by over 62 correctional officers. Friends and family members can send money to the Cordova Community Jail for use by the inmate via the JPay website. The jail is located in Cordova, Alaska, with a mailing address of PO Box 1210, Cordova, AK 99574 and a phone number of 907-424-6100. Inmates are allowed to send and receive mail and publications as long as they are mailed directly from the publishers, as well as make calls between 8:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Funds can be deposited into an inmate's commissary account in two ways, and inmates can receive approved mail and care packages such as clothes, snacks, postcards, magazines, newspapers, envelopes and books. Visiting an inmate is subject to official policy and rules, which can be obtained by contacting the facility directly via the phone number. Visits are limited to 15 minutes and visitors must be over 18 years old and present a valid government-issued photo ID. Clothing that is revealing or offensive is not allowed. Visiting hours are 7:30 am to 9:00 pm on weekdays and 7:30 am to 2:30 pm on weekends. If an inmate is released on parole or probation, they will be monitored by the Valdez-Cordova Census Area County department of corrections, and the Valdez Jail holds bond hearing sessions on weekdays excluding public holidays. Cordova Community Jail is unique in that inmates get an unlimited number of phone calls, as long as collect calls are willing to pick up, and inmates lose and gain privileges based on their behavior. The facility does not have an elaborate online database to help find an inmate, and visitors must be accompanied by an adult family member if they are under the age of 18. Additionally, Cordova Community Jail provides services to offenders who are returning to the community and publishes the names of their inmates currently in their facility in Alaska.
