↑ Back to the question list15. Who handles federal cases out of Drew County?
Federal cases start with officers from the DEA and IRS agents. Court dates for this county take place in the federal building in Little Rock, 500 West Capitol Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72201, part of the Eastern District's Central Division. The clerk's office there takes calls at 501-604-5351. The first court date comes quickly with a magistrate judge. A pretrial write-up goes to the judge and covers where they live and any record. U.S. court has no bail table. The magistrate weighs if they stay locked up at a release hearing following the Bail Reform Act.
Check the sheriff's inmate list first; there the hold might appear. Most federal defendants wait in the Monticello jail rented by the Marshals. The U.S. Marshals office for the Eastern District sits at 600 West Capitol Avenue, Suite A328, Little Rock, AR 72201. Phone 501-324-6256 to find the person. After a prison sentence, the person goes to BOP custody. Follow the person through the federal inmate locator.
↑ Back to the question list16. Someone got an ICE detainer. What happens next?
- At booking, prints taken at the jail are sent to federal agencies. ICE can then place a detainer.
- Rather than walking out, they can be held up to 48 extra hours for ICE. Once the 48 hours end, the detainer expires.
- A paid bond doesn't lift the detainer.
- Immigration officers may take custody before the hold runs out. Deadline passed? Then the request is over, and staff lets them go.
- Only ICE picks the next facility.
- Once ICE has them, their name should show up on the ICE locator — search with the A-number and country of birth. Lacking the A-number? Type in country of birth, birth date and first and last name.
- Arkansas is in the area of the St. Rose, Louisiana, field office, reachable at 504-318-2360, with its office at 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087.
17. Going to state prison? What happens step by step
State prison terms are carried out under the state prison system, the ADC. Before that, the person waits in the Monticello jail while the ADC sends for them. After that, they move to a reception center to be processed. At intake, officers review health and mental health needs, gang links and their risk level. The final move is a unit that fits their rating.
Families can look up an ADC inmate by name or number in the state inmate lookup. Our Arkansas state prison page covers every state unit.
↑ Back to the question list18. How do I see a booking photo of someone booked at the Monticello jail?
Newsrooms after a booking picture should try the sheriff's office at 870-367-6211. Immigration pictures are released just through ICE's FOIA form, and only if the agency agrees. Federal mugshots stay private. Federal law enforcement keeps mugshots back; the Marshals step in only to find a fugitive or escapee, for immediate public safety, or to aid the search or warn people.
