Which court takes federal charges out of Lawrence County?

IRS agents or the DEA carry out federal arrests. Hearings for Walnut Ridge cases happen at the federal courthouse in Jonesboro, 615 South Main Street, Room 312, Jonesboro, AR 72401, under the Eastern District of Arkansas, Northern Division. Clerk's phone: 870-972-4610. The first appearance comes fast, before a magistrate judge. You won't find a set bail price for federal charges. A bail hearing settles if they stay locked up, using the Bail Reform Act. There will be a short interview from pretrial services, whose report helps the judge.

Search the sheriff's inmate list; there a federal hold can be listed. Meanwhile, U.S. Marshals can house them in a nearby jail. The district's Marshals staff in Little Rock can tell you where they are: 501-324-6256, 600 West Capitol Avenue, Suite A328, Little Rock, AR 72201. If the judge orders prison time, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) assigns a facility and the move may take a while. Find them on the Bureau of Prisons locator once they leave the jail.

ICE detainer: how it works for families

  • Jail fingerprints are compared through federal systems that ICE can see. ICE can then file a detainer (Form I-247A).
  • Under the request, the jail can hold them up to two days after they would have left. A holiday doesn't pause the 48 hours.
  • Making the bond will not remove it.
  • Within those hours, ICE can send officers to collect them. Time up and no ICE? At that point the hold ends and the jail should release them on the county case.
  • Every Arkansas case goes to the New Orleans field office, at 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087, 504-318-2360.
  • ICE itself chooses the next facility.
  • Transfers between centers happen, so recheck the detainee locator every few days by A-number and birth country. Without the A-number, the locator also searches by birth country, date of birth and the person's full name.

How does the move from the Walnut Ridge jail to state prison happen?

The state's prison system, the ADC, takes those sentenced to state time. The person waits in the Walnut Ridge jail until the ADC picks them up. After that, they move to a reception unit for check-in. ADC staff review each person for physical and mental health, their risk level and any gang ties. Their last move is the prison that matches them.

Relatives can find the person by ADC number with the Division of Correction search. The state prison page explains prison addresses.

Where are Lawrence County mugshots online?

Yes. The Lawrence booking roster shows Lawrence County mugshots for people booked now.

Call the sheriff's office, 870-886-2525, if you're a reporter asking for a booking photo that isn't public. ICE photos come out just via a FOIA request to ICE, and only if the agency agrees. U.S. booking photos aren't shared to the press or public. Public requests won't unlock it; U.S. Marshals release a photo only to find a wanted fugitive, when release helps make an arrest or warn people or if it's required right away for community safety.
