- Licensed for 60 inmates, but often forced to make room for more, especially on weekends
- At least 40% of inmates at most city and county jails in Arkansas turn over monthly
- Another 30% turn over every 90 days
- Another 20% turn over every six months
- About 8-9% stay six to twelve months
- Those held longer than a year usually face serious charges like rape or murder

Arkansas guarantees a right to bail before conviction for all charges except capital offenses when the proof is evident or the presumption is great. For everything else, judges in Marion County decide between release on recognizance, release with conditions, or a set bail amount.
Marion County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 1,200 offenders per year.
Marion County’s jail is small and close-knit, tucked off Highway 62 at 221 Randolph Road in Yellville, AR 72687. It shares the building with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Voters approved a tax to build it, and the roughly $7 million project, finished around the end of 2018, replaced a cramped 20-bed jail with about 60 beds. Dorm-style pods hold people charged with misdemeanors and women, and separate cells hold people facing felonies. Staff keep it running 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and the number to call is (870) 449-4236. The jail holds people awaiting trial, people serving county sentences, and people sentenced to the Arkansas Division of Correction who are waiting to be transferred.
The Marion County inmate roster lists everyone currently in custody. Under Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 8.1, a person who is arrested goes before a judge without unnecessary delay, generally within 48 hours. Bail is a right before conviction except in capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great, and judges must consider release on recognizance or with conditions before they set money bail (Rules 9.1–9.2). Call the jail for a bond amount. A licensed bondsman’s fee is 10% of the bond, rounded up to the nearest $5, plus small state fees, and it is paid in full before release. Court records are on Search ARCourts. If you think there’s a warrant, call the sheriff’s office or an attorney before turning yourself in.
In-person visits are on Tuesdays for Cells A and B and Thursdays for Cells C and D, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Each person gets 15 minutes of visiting time per visit day. Every visitor needs a valid photo ID and goes through a criminal background check. People with felony convictions can visit only if they are immediate family. Remote video visits are offered through NCIC for a fee, and video visits on the jail’s own kiosks are free.
Commissary runs through Tiger Commissary. You can order online or add money in person at the sheriff’s office. Calls go out collect or through a prepaid NCIC account, and inmates can’t receive incoming calls. Legal mail goes to the person’s name and inmate ID, Marion County Detention Center, P.O. Box 366, Yellville, AR 72687. Personal letters are processed through NCIC at P.O. Box 591, Longview, TX 75606, so call the jail to confirm the current address before you mail anything.
Yellville has no public transit, so visitors drive. For gas, try the Shell/Conoco at 102 US-62 or Fisk Fuel Market at 353 US-62. For a quick bite, Sonic is at 404 Hwy 62 W and Breadeaux Pizza is at 202 Hwy 62 W.
