Still have questions? Call the Scott County Jail at 479-637-4155.

The Scott County Jail may be licensed for 72 inmates, but it is often forced to hold many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Arkansas turn over at least 40% of their inmates every month, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, and roughly 8-9% stay six to twelve months. When someone is held longer than twelve months, they are usually facing a serious charge such as rape or murder. Those cases take longer to prepare for trial, so offenders arrested in Scott County remain in one of the Scott County facilities much longer.

Arkansas’s constitution protects the right to bail before trial for every charge except capital offenses where the proof is evident or the presumption is great. Judges in Scott County weigh factors like the seriousness of the charge and the person’s ties to the community when deciding whether to set bail or release someone on their own recognizance.

Each year, Scott County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 1,440 offenders.

Under the Arkansas Constitution, everyone is bailable before conviction except capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great. A licensed bondsman charges 10% of the bond, rounded up to the nearest $5 (Ark. Code §17-19-301), paid before release along with small nonrefundable state fees. For the bond amount and how the jail takes payment, call (479) 637-4155.

If you think there may be a warrant for you or a family member, call the sheriff’s office or talk to an attorney before you go in. Turning yourself in with a plan is usually easier.
