Back to questions ↑Federal arrest: court, bail and the jail
Federal arrests come from Homeland Security Investigations, the Marshals Service, or IRS agents. Any federal charge is heard by the Western District of Arkansas, El Dorado Division, at the U.S. courthouse in El Dorado: 101 South Jackson Avenue, Room 205, El Dorado, AR 71730. The clerk in El Dorado takes calls at 833-853-0345. Often by the next weekday, they go before a magistrate judge. Nobody uses a set bail price in federal court. A detention hearing decides whether they can leave, applying federal bail law. A pretrial services officer also interviews them and gives advice to the judge.
Search for them with the sheriff's roster. During the case, the Marshals Service often holds federal prisoners in the El Dorado jail. The U.S. Marshals branch covering the Western District sits at 30 South 6th Street, Room 243, Fort Smith, AR 72901. Phone 479-289-7470 and 479-424-5000 (call either one) to ask about the person. With a prison sentence, the BOP picks the prison. Find them with the Bureau of Prisons locator.
Back to questions ↑How can families handle an ICE hold?
- ICE hears about most arrests from booking prints deputies share. ICE may then issue a detainer.
- Posting bond won't end this hold.
- Deputies are asked to wait before letting the person go as long as 48 hours while ICE plans a pickup. Saturday doesn't pause the clock.
- ICE agents can collect them during the hold. If the window passes, the jail must let them go.
- Have a question for ICE? Its New Orleans field office handles Arkansas and sits at 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087; the number is 504-318-2360.
- ICE itself chooses the next facility, and it can change.
- The ICE locator finds people with an A-number and country of birth. There's also a name search: it asks for the day they were born, native country and both first and last names.
How does a move from the El Dorado jail to state prison work?
Arkansas's prison system, the ADC, takes those given state time. Until then, the person remains in the El Dorado jail while the state finds a bed. Their first ADC stop is an intake center where staff process them. There, officers check physical and mental health, gang links and security risk. Their last move is the prison that fits them.
Try the state inmate search for their unit. The Arkansas state prison guide explains every state unit.
Back to questions ↑Are Union County mugshots posted online?
Yes. Union County mugshots appear in the Union booking roster, next to each name. Old Union bookings may not stay posted.
A reporter can seek an unreleased mugshot from the sheriff's office, 870-864-1970. Need an ICE mugshot? Send an ICE FOIA request and wait to hear if it is granted. Federal booking photos aren't shared with the press or public. The Marshals' policy keeps release to three cases: for an escapee or fugitive, if the photo helps catch them or warn people or for immediate public safety.
