Washington County Detention Center Inmate Bail & Bonds
Washington County bail and bond: the Fayetteville jail, step by step
Adults arrested in Fayetteville, Springdale, Farmington, Prairie Grove or elsewhere in Washington County go to the Washington County Detention Center, 1155 West Clydesdale Drive, Fayetteville. The sheriff's office shares the building. Youths go to the separate juvenile center down the street. This page covers bond amounts, payment, bondsmen, court dates and refunds.
Check custody first with the Washington County custody search on VINELink. Our Washington County Inmate Search page covers the rest of an arrest: who is in custody, charges, holds, visits and getting a public defender. Fayetteville and Springdale each have a district court.
Your first step is a call to the detention center at 479-444-5830; the sheriff's main line is 479-444-5700. Ask for the booking number, the charges and the bond on each one. The circuit clerk answers at 479-444-1538, and Fayetteville District Court at 479-587-3590. Hearing steps are on our Washington County court guide.
1. Will the Washington County roster show charges and bond?
Open the inmate search link at the top. The county posts a detailed detainee roster that is meant to show charges and can be filtered by charge. Spelling matters, and so do aliases. A brand-new booking may not show yet, so call the detention desk if the name is absent.
↑ Back to the question list2. Which of the two jail numbers is right?
Use 479-444-5830 for inmate information. Someone answers at the detention desk at any hour. The jail records office is 479-444-5785, and the sheriff's main office is 479-444-5700. The sheriff's main office line is 479-444-5700.
↑ Back to the question list3. How late can a bond be posted?
The county FAQ says detention personnel are on duty around the clock, seven days a week. Still, a bond paid late may wait hours for release paperwork and for the person to be processed out.
↑ Back to the question list4. What payment forms do they take?
Ask the detention desk which forms of payment it takes before you bring money. Ask before you leave home. Carry a photo ID, know the detainee's name and booking number, and get a receipt listing the case number.
↑ Back to the question list5. Where can I find a bondsman?
Before signing with a bondsman in Fayetteville, check the license, which is issued by the state's Professional Bail Bondsman Licensing Board. Ask the jail desk, 479-444-5830, or the circuit clerk, 479-444-1538, how to confirm an agent is licensed for bonds here. Leave any caller who contacted you first.
↑ Back to the question list6. What portion of a Fayetteville bond does the bondsman keep?
The whole premium. Arkansas Code 17-19-301 puts the charge at 10 percent, bumped up to whole $5 steps and at least $50, owed before release. On a $20,000 bond that is $2,000. That fee stays with the bondsman even after the case closes.
↑ Back to the question list7. When does the first court hearing happen?
Arkansas Rule 8.1 expects a prompt first appearance, without unnecessary delay. Washington County shares the Fourth Judicial Circuit with Madison County, and several circuit judges serve it. At the first hearing the judge applies Rule 9.2 to decide on release and its terms, and Rule 9.3 lists conditions like reporting or staying away from a victim.
↑ Back to the question list8. Does a property bond work?
It can, if the court approves. Arkansas allows real estate as security when the owner has clear title and equity above the bond. Bring the deed and a recent tax or appraisal figure, and every owner must sign. The circuit clerk's office, 479-444-1538, knows if property in another county will be accepted.
↑ Back to the question list9. Why does a person have no bond?
A "no bond" entry may be a hold and not a refusal. Under article 2, section 8 of the Arkansas Constitution, only capital offenses with strong proof are unbailable. Holds from probation, parole, another county, or a federal agency can still block release. Ask the records office, 479-444-5785, to list each one.
↑ Back to the question list10. Can an immigration hold be bonded?
The county FAQ points families to the immigration office at 479-444-9897 to learn whether the detainee can get a bond. A federal immigration detainer is separate from the local charge. Paying the local bond may not free the person, who could be handed to federal officers. Speak to a lawyer and ask the jail whether a detainer is on the record.
↑ Back to the question list11. Fayetteville or Springdale police made the arrest. Where do they go?
Both cities generally send adults to the county detention center after booking. Springdale reaches into Benton County, so a Springdale arrest could land in a Benton County jail instead. Call whichever agency made the arrest to learn where your person was taken.
↑ Back to the question list12. Which Fayetteville and Springdale courts are involved?
Felonies are in Washington County Circuit Court, with records at the courthouse, 280 North College Avenue, Suite 302, where the circuit clerk answers 479-444-1538. Misdemeanors go to district courts. Fayetteville District Court is at 176 South Church Avenue, Suite 1, 479-587-3590. Springdale District Court is at 201 North Spring Street, 479-750-8143. Smaller towns have their own, so the clerk can say which has your case. The county clerk, 479-444-1711, handles recorded documents.
↑ Back to the question list13. Which public defender office serves Washington County?
A person short on money may request an appointed lawyer from the judge. A judge appoints the office at first appearance, and the person in custody must ask and answer questions about income. That attorney may then push for a reduced bond.
↑ Back to the question list14. Where does Washington County hold teenagers?
Washington County runs its own Juvenile Detention Center at 885 West Clydesdale Drive, Fayetteville, apart from the adult jail, at 479-444-1670. Parents can call the youth center at 479-444-1670, extension 6, on weekdays from 8 to 5 to set up a visit.
↑ Back to the question list15. Does money on the inmate's books pay a bond?
Money on the books buys store items, calls, and tablet time. Ask the jail's commissary office, 479-444-5873, how deposits are made. Never mail cash.
↑ Back to the question list16. What happens after a Washington County no-show?
Skipping court in Washington County puts the bond at risk and invites a warrant. Arkansas Code 16-84-201 gives the surety roughly 120 days after notice in district court to return the person. Cash can be lost, and a bondsman who loses the bond will pursue the defendant and the co-signer. Reach a lawyer and the clerk, 479-444-1538, as soon as you learn of the missed date. The warrants office is 479-444-5800.
↑ Back to the question list17. When does Washington County return bond cash?
After the case ends, the clerk refunds cash bond money to the name on the receipt, minus fines, costs, or restitution. Refunds can take weeks. Whatever the bondsman collected stays collected.
↑ Back to the question list18. How do I know a Washington County bail call is real?
Real offices never ask for payment by gift card, cash app or wire transfer. Hang up and dial the detention desk directly at 479-444-5830. They can tell you if the person is really there and what bond was ordered.

↑ Back to the question list20. My son was charged in federal court out of Washington County. How does that go?
The county jail cannot take bond on a federal case. Washington County belongs to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas, Fayetteville Division, at the federal building in Fayetteville, 35 East Mountain Street, Fayetteville, AR 72701, 833-853-0345. Here is the usual order:
- An agent's sworn complaint or a grand jury indictment opens the case.
- A magistrate judge holds the first appearance.
- Pretrial services interviews him about family, job and past record.
- The government says whether it wants him held until trial.
- If released, he signs a set of rules he must follow.
People held on federal charges are in the care of the U.S. Marshals: U.S. Marshals Service, 30 South 6th Street, Fort Smith, AR 72901, 479-289-7470 or 479-424-5000 (call either).
↑ Back to the question list21. Will Clydesdale Drive keep someone for ICE?
ICE can send a detainer under 8 CFR 287.7. The request is for up to 48 extra hours after the normal release, weekends and holidays included. Whether to honor it is each Arkansas sheriff's call, and the county charge proceeds regardless.
The ICE New Orleans Field Office, 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087, 504-318-2360 covers the state. People picked up in the northwest corner are often moved south to places like:
- LaSalle ICE Processing Center: 830 Pinehill Road, Jena, LA 71342 · 318-992-1600
- Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center: 1133 Hampton Dupre Road, Pine Prairie, LA 70576 · 337-599-2400
