Questions remaining? Call the White County Detention Center directly at 501-278-8050.

The licensed capacity of the White County Detention Center is 380 inmates, though the jail frequently has to make room for more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Arkansas see at least 40% of inmates turn over monthly, 30% more every 90 days, and 20% more every six months, while around 8-9% remain six to twelve months. Stays longer than twelve months are usually tied to serious charges such as rape or murder. Those cases take time to prepare for trial, which means offenders arrested in White County stay in custody at one of the White County facilities much longer.

In Arkansas, bail before trial is a constitutional right for all charges except capital offenses where the proof is evident or the presumption is great. Judges in White County decide the terms of release, which can range from release on recognizance to conditions of release to a set bail amount.

White County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 7,600 offenders each year.

The White County Detention Center at 1600 E. Booth Road in Searcy, AR 72143 is part of the White County Sheriff’s Office law enforcement center. Its 380 beds are divided into four dorms for women and eleven pods for men. Most are waiting for their cases to move through court; others are serving county sentences or waiting to be transferred to the Arkansas Division of Correction. The jail is staffed around the clock at (501) 278-8050; the sheriff’s administrative line is (501) 279-6279.

Booking comes first: the person is searched, photographed, fingerprinted and checked for warrants. Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 8.1 requires a first appearance before a judge without unnecessary delay, generally within 48 hours, and in White County that judge sits in the 17th Judicial Circuit. Arkansas law leans toward release. The state constitution (Article 2, Section 8) says everyone is bailable before conviction except in capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great. Rules 9.1 and 9.2 direct judges to consider release on recognizance or with conditions, setting money bail only when no other conditions will reasonably ensure the person comes back to court. Bonds may be posted in cash, through a licensed bondsman or with property; call the jail for the amount and accepted payment. Under Arkansas Code §17-19-301, a bondsman’s premium is 10% of the bond, rounded up to the nearest $5, paid in full before release, plus small nonrefundable state fees.

To find out whether someone is in custody, check the inmate information pages on the sheriff’s website, wcso.cc, or call the jail. VINELink also tracks custody status for Arkansas jails and can send you an alert when the person is released. For charges and court dates, use Search ARCourts at caseinfo.arcourts.gov/opad. If you think you may have a warrant, contact an attorney or the sheriff’s office before turning yourself in.

Video visitation is provided by Smart Communications. Free on-site video visits run Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in 30-minute slots, and each inmate gets one free visit a week. There are no on-site visits on weekends. Remote visits from home are available every day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. at $0.50 per minute. Schedule every visit at least 24 hours ahead. One adult and one child may share an on-site session, and adults need a government-issued photo ID. People released from jail within the past 180 days may not be allowed to visit.

Personal mail is scanned off site. Send letters and postcards to: Inmate’s Full Name & ID, White County Detention Center, P.O. Box 9141, Seminole, FL 33775-9141. Legal mail and publications (paperbacks only, up to three, sent from the publisher) go to the jail itself at 1600 E. Booth Rd., Searcy, AR 72143. Put your name and return address in the top left corner. Tiger Commissary handles deposits online, at the 24-hour lobby kiosk (cash, debit or credit) or by money order mailed to the jail. Phone accounts are set up with Correct Solutions Group at (877) 618-3516. Ask the jail about release and property pickup.

No public bus serves the jail; most visitors drive. Phillips 66 at 1010 E. Booth Rd. is just down the street, and Love’s Travel Stop is at 2505 Queensway St. For a quick meal, try Wendy’s at 1707 E. Race Ave. or Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers at 2812 E. Race Ave.

How to handle bail after an arrest in White County

If someone has been booked at White County Detention Center in Searcy, their next steps may include:

1. Release without posting bail, provided they agree to attend court.
2. Detainment until their trial.
3. Posting bail or bond to secure release. For the exact amount, call 501-278-8050.

There are a variety of payment methods available for bail.

  • The usual way to post a cash bond is to pay the full amount at the jail bonding window or the clerk of court by cash, cashier's check or money order; many jails also offer card payment through a lobby kiosk or online bond vendor for a fee, and you should bring the inmate's full name and booking number (call 501-278-8050 for the jail).
  • Assistance is available from licensed bail bond companies in White County.
  • Real property bonds are accepted in many courts: an owner may offer land or a home after showing clear title and equity of at least the bond, often double, with a deed and a recent tax or appraisal value, and the court that set bail approves it.

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the White County Detention Center?

There are three choices for putting money on an inmate's books:

Choice 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail

Bring money to the jail in person.

Jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment.

White County Detention Center has a Tiger Kiosk in the Lobby that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

If you can't get your questions answered online call the White County Detention Center at 501-278-8050.

Choice 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online

White County Detention Center and others often use a private company to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Go to the online site for depositing funds. You will need to register an account, which is free to do and use a debit/credit card for the deposits.

Choice 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail

Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.

Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.

Call White County Detention Center at 501-278-8050 to confirm the address to send the money order to and how they want it made out.

Failure to do this properly will delay your inmate getting his account credited and may require you to have to resubmit a second money order.

Call 501-278-8050 to ask facility personnel who to make the money order out to, and where to send it.
