Inmates sentenced to less than a year do their time in this county. Inmates sentenced to longer terms are transferred to the Arkansas State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

If you still have questions, call the Woodruff County Jail at 870-347-2583.
The Woodruff County Jail is licensed for 23 inmates, but it often must make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Arkansas turn over at least 40% of their population monthly, 30% more every 90 days, and 20% more every six months, and about 8-9% remain six to twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Woodruff County remain in custody at one of the Woodruff County facilities much longer.
Under the Arkansas Constitution, bail is available before trial for every offense except capital crimes where the proof is evident or the presumption is great. In Woodruff County, a judge can release a defendant on their own recognizance, impose conditions, or set a bail amount, depending on the case.
Every year, Woodruff County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 460 offenders.

The Woodruff County Jail in Augusta is a small facility run by the Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office. It has room for about 23 people and holds men and women: some waiting for court, some serving short county sentences and some waiting for transport to the Arkansas Division of Correction. The sheriff’s office lists its address as 500 North 3rd Street, Augusta, AR 72006, and the jail building is on Gregory Street. Call (870) 347-2583, answered around the clock, to check on someone, and ask which building to go to before you head over.
Because the jail is so small, a phone call is often the fastest way to confirm someone is there. VINELink or the sheriff's app (links above for both ios and google play) can also show whether a person is in custody and send release alerts. Search ARCourts at caseinfo.arcourts.gov/opad shows charges and court dates for Woodruff County cases, which are part of the 1st Judicial Circuit.
After booking, Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 8.1 requires that the person see a judge without unnecessary delay, generally within 48 hours. The Arkansas Constitution (Article 2, Section 8) makes everyone bailable before conviction except in capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great. Under Rules 9.1 and 9.2, judges should consider release on recognizance or with conditions, setting money bail only when nothing else will reasonably secure a return to court. A licensed bondsman charges 10% of the bond, rounded up to the nearest $5 and paid before release, plus small state fees (Arkansas Code §17-19-301). Call the jail for bond amounts and payment options. If you think there is a warrant for you, call an attorney or the sheriff’s office before turning yourself in.
Call the jail to confirm current visiting days and times, the ID you will need and whether children may come along. Mail goes to: Inmate’s Full Name & ID, Woodruff County Jail, P.O. Box 555, Augusta, AR 72006. Postcards are the safest choice, and books must be softcover and come straight from the seller. Inmate accounts are funded through CommissaryDeposit.com, and phone calls run through City Tele Coin. Ask about release and property pickup when you call.
No public bus serves the jail; most visitors drive. For gas, try Augusta Foodmart at 105 U.S. 64 Business or Flash Market at

What happens during booking at Woodruff County Jail?
After arrest, individuals are processed at Woodruff County Jail, where they undergo a series of steps that determine their charges and whether they’ll be released on their own recognizance, allowed to post bail, or held until their court date.
The first rule for anyone arrested is to remain silent. Anything they say can be used in court, so it’s best to speak only to an attorney about the incident.
Here are the typical stages of the booking process at Woodruff County Jail:
- Verifying the person’s identity.
- Taking mugshots.
- Questions regarding medical and mental health history, along with drug and gang affiliations.
- Collecting DNA if necessary.
- Conducting a physical search.
- Confiscating personal belongings.
- Providing a phone call.
If you need details about an offender’s bail or bond, contact the facility at 870-347-2583.
How do you post bail in Woodruff County?
If someone is taken to Woodruff County Jail in Augusta for booking, the next steps depend on their case:
1. The individual may be released without bail, under a promise to appear at a court hearing.
2. They could be held in custody until their trial.
3. They may post a bail or bond for release. To find out the exact bail amount, call 870-347-2583.
Bail payments can be handled in various ways.
- Cash bonds are paid in full, normally at the jail's bonding window or with the clerk of court, by cash, cashier's check or money order, and card payments are often possible through a kiosk in the lobby or an online vendor for a convenience fee; have the inmate's full name and booking number ready, and reach the jail at 870-347-2583.
- Licensed bail bond agents in Woodruff County can facilitate payment.
- Property bonds are available in many courts: an owner may pledge land or a home after proving clear title and equity of at least the bond amount (often double) with the deed and a recent tax or appraisal figure, and the court that set bail decides whether to accept it.

There are two options for putting money on an inmate's books:
Choice 1 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Woodruff County Jail uses CommissaryDeposit.com to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Choice 2 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
**Call 870-347-2583 first to ask Woodruff County Jail if this option is still available.
