Where do federal charges out of Woodruff County go?

Agents from the FBI and IRS agents handle federal arrests, sometimes alongside local police. Federal cases from this area go to Arkansas's Eastern District, Northern Division, at the courthouse in Jonesboro: 615 South Main Street, Room 312, Jonesboro, AR 72401. Clerk staff there takes calls at 870-972-4610. An initial hearing is held fast, before a U.S. magistrate judge. Federal court has no bail schedule. The U.S. Marshals branch covering the Eastern District is at 600 West Capitol Avenue, Suite A328, Little Rock, AR 72201. Phone 501-324-6256 to learn the location of a federal prisoner. Following sentencing to prison, a prisoner transfers to federal prison (the BOP). Track the person with the BOP inmate locator after the move.

A relative got an ICE hold. What now?

  • During booking, the person's prints are sent to Homeland Security. ICE can then file a detainer with the Augusta jail.
  • Posting the bond won't clear it.
  • Under a detainer, ICE asks the Augusta jail to put off the release by up to two days. That's two straight days, measured from the moment they could leave.
  • During that window, ICE can come to collect them. If the pickup doesn't happen, this should mean release.
  • Only ICE picks the detention center.
  • People can be moved between centers, so look at the ICE locator every few days using their A-number and birth country. Without an A-number, use DOB, native country, and the name as spelled on ID.
  • Every Arkansas case goes to ICE's New Orleans ERO office: 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087, 504-318-2360.

From the Augusta jail to state prison: how it works

Felony prison terms are carried out under the ADC. They wait in the Augusta jail for a state transfer. The ride lands them at intake, and there new prisoners are checked in. Staff sort everyone based on gang ties, security risk, and medical and mental health needs. Last, they move to a unit that fits that rating.

Try the state inmate search by name or ADC number. For each unit, read Arkansas prison pages.

Can I get Woodruff County mugshots online?

The sheriff's office, 870-347-2583, takes media requests for mugshots not posted online. Any ICE mugshot is released after an ICE FOIA request that ICE approves. Mugshots taken by the Marshals get shared only for a few reasons: to find an escapee or fugitive, if it is required at once to keep people safe or if release helps catch them or alert the public.
