Monroe County Detention Center

Looking for someone in custody? The inmate search tool shows everyone currently held at the 43-bed Monroe County Detention Center, and staff can answer questions around the clock at 870-747-3623.

Anyone arrested in the county on misdemeanor or felony charges comes through this facility for booking and processing. Depending on the charges, they may be held until they are bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or kept in custody until their trial is over.

This page covers the visitation schedule, adding funds to an inmate’s account, mail rules, phone calls from inmates, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, how to post bail, and commissary orders.

Keep the inmate’s jail ID or booking number handy, because most mail and messaging services require it. If you can’t find it online, call Monroe County Detention Center at 870-747-3623.

The Monroe County Detention Center holds a license for 43 inmates, but the actual count is often higher, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Arkansas have a monthly turnover of at least 40% of their inmates, another 30% every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and roughly 8-9% who stay six to twelve months. Stays of more than twelve months usually involve serious charges such as murder or rape. Since preparing those cases for trial takes time, offenders arrested in Monroe County are held at one of the Monroe County facilities much longer.

In Arkansas, every defendant is bailable before trial except those charged with capital offenses when the proof is evident or the presumption is great. For all other charges, judges in Monroe County can release the defendant on their own recognizance, set conditions of release, or require bail.

About the Monroe County Detention Center

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office runs a small detention facility at 200 South Main Street in Clarendon, AR 72029, near the White River. It is a long-term jail for adult men, with room for 40 people. Women arrested in Monroe County are held at another facility. If you’re looking for a woman, or you just aren’t sure where someone was taken, call the sheriff’s office at (870) 747-3811, which is answered 24 hours a day. The men held here are mostly awaiting trial. Some are serving county sentences or waiting to be transferred to the Arkansas Division of Correction.

The Monroe County inmate roster has two lists, current inmates and people released in the last 48 hours. The sheriff’s website also posts a Most Wanted list. To look up court cases, use Search ARCourts. If you might have a warrant, it’s smart to talk with the sheriff’s office or a lawyer before you turn yourself in.

Within 48 hours or so of arrest, and without unnecessary delay, a judge holds a first appearance (Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 8.1). The Arkansas Constitution says everyone is bailable before conviction unless the charge is capital and the proof is evident or the presumption great. Judges are told to consider release on recognizance or with conditions before setting money bail (Rules 9.1–9.2). Call the jail for bond amounts and accepted payment methods. If you go through a bondsman, the fee is 10% of the bond, rounded up to the nearest $5, plus small state fees, and it is due in full before release (Ark. Code § 17-19-301).

Visiting is daily from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Each visit lasts 20 minutes, and up to five people can be on an inmate’s visitor list. Schedule visits through an NCIC account at NCIC.com and bring a valid photo ID for every visitor. NCIC also offers paid remote video visits and runs the inmate phones. Money for commissary has to be a money order. Address letters with the person’s full name and inmate ID number to Monroe County Detention Center, 200 South Main Street, Clarendon, AR 72029.

No public bus serves Clarendon, so plan to drive. For gas, the Exxon at 337 S 5th St and the Shell at 105 S 5th St are both on 5th Street. Lions Den Drive In at 212 S 5th St and Bendi’s Diner at 101 N 6th St are good for a quick meal.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Monroe County Detention Center?

There are three choices for putting money on an inmate's books:

Choice 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail

Bring money to the jail in person.

Jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment.

Some jails have self-serve kiosks in the lobbies that accept cash, debit or credit cards.

If you can't get your questions answered online call the Monroe County Detention Center at 870-747-3623.

Choice 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online

Monroe County Detention Center and others often use a private company to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Go to the online site for depositing funds. You will need to register an account, which is free to do and use a debit/credit card for the deposits.

Choice 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail

Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.

Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.

Call Monroe County Detention Center at 870-747-3623 to confirm the address to send the money order to and how they want it made out.

Failure to do this properly will delay your inmate getting his account credited and may require you to have to resubmit a second money order.

Call 870-747-3623 to ask facility personnel who to make the money order out to, and where to send it.

How to deposit money in an inmate's phone account in the Monroe County Detention Center
