You can speak with someone at the 303-bed Placerville Jail about an inmate at any hour by calling 530-621-5567.

Those sentenced to less than one year serve their sentence at the jail. Those sentenced to more than one year are sent to the California State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page has information about the visitation schedule, inmate account funding, mail, phone calls, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, bail bond instructions, and commissary.

Placerville Jail Inmate Search
Do you suspect there’s a warrant for your arrest in El Dorado County or elsewhere in California? Or do you need details about a court case involving a friend or relative? A good place to start is the California Superior Court.
Most criminal defendants in El Dorado County and throughout California have a constitutional right to be released on bail before trial, with exceptions for certain capital and violent felony charges. The California Supreme Court has held that a person cannot be kept in jail solely because they can’t afford bail unless no less restrictive condition would protect public safety or ensure their return to court, so judges must consider ability to pay. Under Rule 4.101, judges also cannot consider whether a defendant has asked for a jury trial.
Want to know how much an inmate’s bail is? Call the Placerville Jail at 530-621-5567, or if you know the charge, check the bail schedule for El Dorado County. The county accepts cash, a surety bond, or a property bond.
The Placerville Jail is licensed for 303 inmates at any given time, but it often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. At most city and county jails in California, the inmate population turns over like this:
Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take time to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in this county remain in custody at one of the El Dorado County facilities much longer.
Every year, El Dorado County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 10,020 offenders.
The El Dorado County Placerville Jail has a capacity of around 303 inmates (plus 8 medical beds), houses both men and women awaiting trial or sentencing, and has an average of 2588 bookings per year. The single story building they share with the El Dorado County Sheriff, turns into a four story building behind the sheriff's office. The property is located at the top of a hill called Jail Street.

The Placerville Jail's mailing address is 300 Forni Road, Placerville, CA 95667 and the phone number for the El Dorado County Sheriff's Custody Division is 530-621-5567.
In-person visitation hours at the Placerville Jail in California are every day except Mondays, and seven days a week remotely by video from 8:00AM to 11:00PM. The visitation schedule can be viewed directly below this section or on our Inmate Visitation page. Each visitor is allowed a maximum of three 30-minute visits per week and is limited to one visit per day unless pre-approved through jail administration. Because El Dorado County is such a large, rural area in the Sierra Mountains, the Sheriff has a second office and a second jail, located in South Lake Tahoe at 1051 Al Tahoe Blvd. that holds an additional 158 inmates when at full capacity.
Placerville recently opened up a 100 person homeless camp on a parcel next to the jail. Time will tell if that was a good idea or not.
On this page you will find all the other answers to your questions, including bail, directions to the jail, sending an inmate money and commissary and how to register a phone account so your inmate can call you. If you still have questions, call the jail at 530-621-5567 24 hours a day.
