About the Marsh Creek Detention Facility

The Marsh Creek Detention Facility is the minimum security jail that operates as one of the three facilities in Contra Costa County. Located out of town, it covers a large area of land and provides both indoor and outdoor recreational spaces and long, low building houses up to 154 at one time. It is commonly referred to as “the farm” and covers 32 acres.

Educational opportunities are offered to all inmates that provide a general adult education, GED support for classes and the exam, and vocational training is available with many being ideal for the location of the facility. Skills and vocational training include wood shop, general construction, cement, agriculture, viticulture, and other courses. These provide inmates with useful skills that will allow them to seek further education or to gain employment soon after release, reducing their rates of return to the system and providing a way to support themselves as they continue their work towards their life goals.

Visiting hours are on the weekends only at 1pm and at 2pm both days. Incoming mail is sent to a central location where it is scanned and then delivered digitally to the inmate.

The mailing address for inmate's personal mail is:

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Marsh Creek Detention Facility?

Depositing Money in an Inmate's Commissary Account at Marsh Creek Detention Facility

Whatever cash the inmate has on their person when booked into the facility will automatically deposited and credited to their account. When released any money left in the account will be returned to them in the form of a check from the Sheriff's Department or the Marsh Creek Detention Facility Trust Account. There may be circumstances where the inmate can give permission to have his money released to a family member or friend.

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail

  • Bring money to the jail in person.
  • Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a self-serve kiosk in the lobby that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail

  • Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person.
  • Never send cash. Always send a Money Order or Cashier's Check from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.
  • Make the Money Order out to the Contra Costa County Sheriff and put their name and Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.

Mail to:
12000 Marsh Creek Road
Clayton, CA 94517

Failure to do this properly will delay your inmate getting their account credited and may require you to have to resubmit a second money order.
Call 925-646-5700 to ask any questions about this.
