Indio Jail - Riverside County Inmate Bail & Bonds
Riverside County bail and bond: who must pay, who goes home on a promise, and where
Most people arrested in western Riverside County end up at the Robert Presley Detention Center, 4000 Orange Street, Riverside, CA 92501. The Sheriff runs four more adult jails: Banning for the Pass, Indio for the Coachella Valley, Murrieta for the southwest, and Blythe for the far east. You will learn how bail works here, and when a case needs none.
Use the official Riverside inmate search to see which building holds your person. It shows the jail, the bail amount and the court date. Our Riverside Jail Roster page adds who is in custody now, fresh arrests, active warrants and contact details for public defenders.
Call the Presley desk at 951-955-4500 and ask if the charge even needs bail. Many small cases end with a signed promise to appear. Then open our Riverside court page to find the courthouse for the case.
1. Which Riverside County jail is she in?
Search her name with Riverside County Inmate Search. The Sheriff's Office runs five adult jails across a very large county: the Robert Presley Detention Center, 4000 Orange Street, Riverside, CA 92501 (951-955-4500); the Smith Correctional Facility, 1627 South Hargrave Street, Banning, CA 92220 (951-922-7300); the John J. Benoit Detention Center, 82675 Highway 111, Indio, CA 92201 (760-863-8252); the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center, 30755-B Auld Road, Murrieta, CA 92563 (951-696-3050); and the Blythe Jail, 260 North Spring Street, Blythe, CA 92225 (760-921-5780). The record shows the building. Bookings from the last few minutes may lag, so check back.
2. Does she have to pay anything to come home?
Maybe not. Since October 2025 the Superior Court's bail schedule has marked many lower-level offenses "Cite and Release" or "Book and Release." These people do not post bail. Deputies can free her once she signs a written promise to show up in court. Look at the charge on Riverside County Inmate Search, then ask the jail desk whether that charge carries one of those labels before you spend money.
3. When is the release-on-a-promise label dropped?
The schedule says the label does not apply when other factors exist, such as an earlier failure to appear or a hold from another case. The charge is then handled as a "Pre-Arraignment Review" offense, where bail is set at the scheduled amount. A signed promise also carries duties under Penal Code 1318, including following court conditions and not leaving California without permission.
4. What are some real bail amounts in Riverside County?
The court's schedule, effective October 2025, lists presumptive amounts: felony drunk driving, $20,000; felony corporal injury to a spouse or partner, $30,000, or $40,000 with a prior; felony assault with a deadly weapon, $30,000; first-degree residential burglary, $40,000; first-degree robbery, $40,000; second-degree robbery, $30,000; murder without special circumstances, $1,000,000. Murder with special circumstances is marked not bailable.
A misdemeanor corporal injury charge lists $5,000. These are starting points, not promises. The schedule does not control when a warrant was issued, and a judge may change an amount.
5. What do "Pre-Arraignment Review" and "Arraignment Review" mean?
For both labels, bail is set at the scheduled amount and can be paid at any time. If it is not paid, a judge reviews bail and custody at arraignment, or earlier for the pre-arraignment label once the court starts that process. The court says the early review is still being built, so for now both are treated the same. California law requires an arraignment within 48 hours, not counting Sundays and holidays (Penal Code 825).
6. Where do I pay, and when?
The Sheriff's Office accepts bail at the scheduled amount for offenses that require it. Pay at the jail where she is held, and call before you drive: Robert Presley Detention Center, 4000 Orange Street, Riverside, CA 92501 (951-955-4500); Smith Correctional Facility, 1627 South Hargrave Street, Banning, CA 92220 (951-922-7300); John J. Benoit Detention Center, 82675 Highway 111, Indio, CA 92201 (760-863-8252); Cois M. Byrd Detention Center, 30755-B Auld Road, Murrieta, CA 92563 (951-696-3050); or Blythe Jail, 260 North Spring Street, Blythe, CA 92225 (760-921-5780). Payment types and window hours vary by Riverside jail, so ask the desk before you go.
7. What if she was arrested on a warrant?
The scheduled amount is not required in that case. A judge sets bail on a warrant after weighing the factors in Penal Code 1275, and the figure is often printed on the warrant. Tell the jail you are asking about a warrant arrest so the desk looks at the right paperwork.
8. Can a judge look at where bail money came from?
Yes. Under Penal Code 1275.1, bail cannot be accepted unless a judge finds that none of the money or property was obtained by a felony. A hold can be placed only after a sworn statement or a judge's own finding. Borrowing money is allowed if it is repaid with lawful funds. Keep bank records, pay stubs, or a loan letter in case the court asks.
9. Is a bail agent worth it?
It lowers the cash you need but costs more in the end. State insurance regulators say 10 percent is the usual bondsman fee, and it isn’t refunded even if prosecutors drop the case. Agents for one surety company charge the same filed rates. Before signing with a Riverside bondsman, look closely at the collateral and what a missed date would cost you.
10. Can I post a house or land?
Property is a court matter, not a jail one. Call the court at 951-777-3147 to learn which courthouse has the case, then ask that clerk about ownership papers, equity, and whether out-of-state land counts. Do not agree to a lien until you have the answers in writing.
11. Her Riverside booking lists no bail. What does that mean?
Article I, section 12 of the state constitution permits a Riverside judge to withhold bail for crimes punishable by death, for certain violent or sexual felonies where the proof is strong, and felonies involving threats of grave injury. Riverside's schedule marks one crime, murder with special circumstances, as not bailable. Holds placed by parole agents, probation officers or another county keep her in, too.
12. Riverside set bail we can't reach. How can her attorney help?
Her attorney may request a smaller figure or release with conditions such as check-ins. In the 2021 case In re Humphrey, the California Supreme Court said a person's ability to pay must be considered. Under Penal Code 1275, a Riverside judge considers safety, how grave the charge is, her past record, and whether she will come back. Bring paycheck records, her rental agreement and notes from family to show her Riverside roots.
13. My son is 15. Where would he be held?
Riverside County's juvenile halls include Southwest Juvenile Hall, 30755-C Auld Road, Murrieta, and Indio Juvenile Hall, 47665 Oasis Street, Indio. Southwest Juvenile Hall answers at 951-600-6750, and Indio Juvenile Hall at 760-863-7600. Call the one nearest where he was arrested and ask if he is there. The Probation Department also runs a youth treatment and education center in Riverside, 951-358-4400. Teen records are sealed, and he won’t turn up in the adult lookup.
14. Riverside defendant, no money for counsel: who takes the case?
At the arraignment, ask the judge for a free lawyer. If the Riverside court finds you eligible, the county Public Defender is assigned. The court at 951-777-3147 can tell you which courthouse and department hold the case, which is the first thing the Public Defender will ask.
15. He was released, then missed a Riverside court date. What next?
The court declares the bail forfeited. When the bond tops $400, Penal Code 1305 has the clerk mail a notice, starting a 180-day window, plus 5 days for mail, for him to return so the forfeiture is set aside. Reach his attorney and the bondsman the same day.
16. Is money on a jail account a bond?
Commissary and phone deposits never buy release, and companies that sell those services are not the court. Bail is paid on its own, at the jail or through an agent. Real Riverside jails never take gift cards or rushed wire transfers by phone; that is fraud.
17. Can Riverside bail be used to keep someone locked up?
Not under the April 2026 Kowalczyk ruling. Riverside, Murrieta, Indio and Banning judges must set a reasonable amount the person can generally reach, or hold a no-bail hearing that meets the state constitution's strict test.

How do Bail Bonds work at Indio Jail - Riverside County
The Riverside County Sheriff recommends that you might want to use a bail bond agent licensed to do business in Riverside County.
However if you don't want to use a bail bond agent:
- You can always pay a cash bond yourself, or use your home in Riverside County, or in some cases the state of California, but the benefit of using a bail bond agent is that they take responsibility for making sure the inmate shows up for court in Riverside County, and if they don't, then they take the financial responsibility.
- The typical fee for a bond in California is between 10-20% of the bail amount; usually 15% or less. So if an offender has a bail of $10,000.00, their bond will be $1,500.00.
- Pay by cash, cashier's check, money order or credit card at the Indio Jail - Riverside County, or the courthouse in Riverside County where the offense took place.
Call 760-863-8252 to find out the exact bond (plus other fees) amount, or look it up online by looking up the information on the Riverside County inmate locator.
