What if someone in Yolo County faces federal charges?

Agents from agencies like the Postal Inspection Service, the DEA, or the IRS carry out federal arrests, often alongside local police. Court dates in this county happen in the U.S. courthouse in Sacramento, 501 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, part of the Eastern District of California's Sacramento Division. Clerk's phone: 916-930-4000. An initial appearance happens fast, before a federal magistrate. No bail schedule is used in federal court. A judge rules on the release terms in a bail hearing, using federal bail law. Expect questions with a pretrial services officer before court.

Look them up on the sheriff's roster. This district's Marshals staff in Sacramento knows where they are: 916-930-2030, 501 I Street, Suite 5600, Sacramento, CA 95814. Until sentencing, the Marshals can house federal prisoners in local jails. After sentencing to prison, they transfer to a BOP prison. Track the person on the BOP locator.

What should families know about a Yolo County ICE hold?

  • At booking, their prints are sent to Homeland Security. If ICE decides your loved one could be deportable, it may send a detainer.
  • A paid bail won't end the detainer.
  • Under the I-247A, ICE requests that the Woodland jail delay release for at most two days. Weekends and holidays are part of it.
  • Immigration officers can come for them while the hold lasts. If nobody comes, staff must free them.
  • To reach ICE's San Francisco field office: 630 Sansome Street, Room 590, San Francisco, CA 94111; phone 415-365-8800.
  • The agency picks where they go next.
  • Search the ICE online locator using the person's A-number plus country of birth. If the person's A-number is unknown, type in the full legal name, native country, and birth date.

When is someone moved from Yolo County to state prison?

State prison terms are served through the CDCR. The person most often waits in the Woodland jail until the CDCR picks them up. Their first CDCR stop is an intake center. During classification, staff check health care needs, gang connections, and custody score. The end point is the unit that fits their needs.

Check the CDCR inmate locator to find them. For each unit, read California prison pages.

Back to questions ↑

Are Yolo County mugshots posted online?

Try the Yolo County roster first. The Yolo page gives booking data with no mugshots.

See Section 13665 for the law. Social media is what it covers. Most nonviolent arrests fall under it. Those mugshots can't go on social media. Posts must come down within 14 days. Fugitives and threats are the exceptions. The rule skips the sheriff's own site. Still, most California rosters show no photos.

Newsrooms after a booking photo should try sheriff's staff at 530-666-8282 and ask what it can share. ICE's online FOIA request is the only way to ask for an ICE mugshot; ICE decides. Federal agencies don't share booking photos with the press or the public. U.S. officials keep mugshots back; the Marshals release one only for a wanted person, if it's required right away to keep the community safe or when release may help find them or put out an alert.
