Yuba County bail and bond: the Marysville jail lobby, the felony schedule, and your next steps

People arrested in Yuba County are held at the Yuba County Jail, 215 5th Street, Marysville, which the Sheriff-Coroner runs. Check Yuba County Inmate Search first. It lists the charges and bail. For the jail itself, dial 530-749-7740. Bail is paid at the jail lobby by the courthouse, and a judge at the Superior Court next door decides any change.

1. Did my husband get booked in Marysville tonight?

Phone the jail at 530-749-7740 with his birth date in hand.

2. Where is the jail lobby where I hand over bail money?

Walk to the Sixth Street side of the courthouse, the block between B and C. The jail lobby faces north. Tell the control room deputy at the lobby you are there to post bail. The Sheriff's page lists no lobby hours for bail, and it mentions that cashier's windows are closed. Phone 530-749-7740 before you drive in so you do not wait at a locked door.

3. What can I pay with, and can I pay only part?

The Sheriff takes U.S. currency, cashier's checks or money orders. Make checks and money orders out to "Yuba County Jail." The department accepts bail for the full amount only, so no partial payments. You can also go through a bail bond agency instead. Personal checks are not on the list.

4. I fed the lobby kiosk. Does that count as his bail?

The kiosk, the deposit website and the deposit phone line, 866-232-1899, all add money to his own account for phone calls and commissary. Those payments are final, with no refunds and no change. Bail is paid at the lobby desk. If the wrong payment went in, ask the jail at 530-749-7740.

5. How much is bail for burglary, drugs or a domestic violence arrest?

Yuba County's felony bail schedule, adopted December 23, 2025 and effective January 2, 2026, lists $50,000 for residential burglary and $25,000 for other burglary, $15,000 for possession of a controlled substance (Health and Safety Code 11350 or 11377), $30,000 for assault with a deadly weapon, and $50,000 for corporal injury to a spouse or partner ($100,000 with a certain prior). Domestic battery is $25,000, and taking a car without consent is $25,000. Judges can change every figure.

6. What if his charge is not on the schedule?

Then the schedule follows the top prison term: $15,000 for a 3-year top term, $50,000 for 5 or 6 years, and $100,000 for 7 or 8. Misdemeanors not named come to $2,500, and the schedule puts a felony probation violation at no bail. Look at his actual number with Yuba County Inmate Search.

7. Why must a judge approve release on a violent charge?

For violent or serious felonies, and for certain spousal abuse, stalking and protective order charges, Penal Code 1270.1 requires a noticed hearing in open court before release on any amount other than the schedule. The Yuba schedule calls this Marcy's Law. A judge may also raise bail above the schedule if an officer swears to facts supporting it. Ask which charge triggered it.

Back to questions ↑

8. We cannot afford the scheduled amount. What now?

The scheduled number applies only until a judge reviews it. Under Penal Code 1275 the judge weighs public safety, the charge, his record and his chance of returning, and under the California Supreme Court cases In re Humphrey (2021) and In re Kowalczyk (2026) must try less costly conditions first and set any money bail at an amount he can reasonably pay. Ask his lawyer to request a bail hearing, and collect proof of work and housing. The court's criminal office is 530-740-1800.

Back to questions ↑

9. When does the judge see someone in custody?

In-custody arraignments are generally at 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, at the courthouse, 215 Fifth Street, Suite 200. The posted calendar is in the second-floor lobby, or call 530-740-1800 and press option 4. Penal Code 825 sets an outer limit of 48 hours after arrest, not counting Sundays and court holidays. The judge can raise or lower bail at that hearing.

10. We posted cash. When will Yuba send it back?

The court says refunds on cash bail are processed automatically upon court order. They usually take about six to eight weeks and go to the depositor named on the bail receipt, so the name on that receipt matters. Keep it safe. A bail agent's fee is a different matter and is not refunded.

11. What does a bail agent in Yuba County charge?

State insurance regulators say agents usually charge 10% of the bond. Dropped charges do not bring that money back. Only a few rare cases, like an agent surrendering the person, change that. Agents must use filed rates and cannot solicit you. Make the agent write down three things before you sign: the fee, the collateral, and your duty if he misses court.

12. Does Yuba County take land or a house as bail?

Ask before you plan on it. The Sheriff's page says only cash, cashier's checks, money orders or an agency bond. A property bond is handled through the court, not the jail lobby. State law (Penal Code 1298) requires a judge's hearing and equity worth twice the bail. Call the criminal office, 530-740-1800, and ask about the court's forms, whether land outside Yuba County counts, and the timeline.

Back to questions ↑

13. What does "no bail" mean on his record?

California's constitution, in Article I, section 12, lets a judge refuse bail in some cases. That covers capital cases, plus violent felonies, sex felonies and serious threats when the evidence is strong and letting the person out would likely lead to great bodily harm. The Yuba schedule itself shows no bail for murder with a special circumstance and for felony probation violations. An open warrant out of some other county can hold him here too. Cash does not lift a hold.

14. He cannot hire a lawyer. How does he get one?

When he first stands before the Yuba judge, he can ask for appointed counsel. When he qualifies, the court names a public defender. Since 2021, California courts may not bill adults for that lawyer. The Yuba court page does not name a public defender office, so call the criminal clerk at 530-740-1800 to learn who has been assigned.

17. He skipped his Marysville court date after we paid. Now what?

Back to questions ↑

18. Is Yuba bail supposed to be within our reach?
