⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessEl Paso County provides the jail and detention services through the Sheriff’s Office, and they operate with three divisions within the department.
There is an Intake and Inmate Services that provide the intake and booking process and gather the information that provides the classification of the inmates as they arrive, while Inmate Services completes the classification and assigns housing units, and the Court Services who are located within the courthouse and provide all transportation to and from court dates.
Classification not only determines the security level of each inmate, but what housing unit will be the most effective for them and the safest for all inmates, as well as operating the housing program for those who are being released and a reintegration program.
All questions about inmates or classification, visitation or other topics can be directed to the facility at 719-390-2000.
Each of these units and departments will also manage the same activities throughout the work release program as well, operating as separate but joint locations.
Many programs to offer support and education to the inmates are in place including AA, NA, VA Assistance, a law library and book cart, a book club and meditation programs, as well as religious programs and other educational opportunities.
Along with these opportunities, it has been shown that there are lower rates of recidivism and better safety and mental health when inmates are in contact with their loved ones outside of the detention center, so El Paso County Jail provides mail services, phone calls, and visits for all inmates.
Mail is accepted only through the postal service with a full return address as well and should be addressed to the inmate mail program at:

... and inmates phone accounts can be funded online to allow inmates to make outgoing calls.

The booking process at El Paso County Jail typically includes the following steps:
Depending on circumstances, booking can take anywhere from one hour to up to 48 hours, especially during busy periods or if the individual is uncooperative. For questions about paying an arrestee’s bond or bail amount, contact the facility at 719-390-2000.
