Summit County Detention Facility
Summit County Detention Facility
The 93-bed Summit County Detention Facility answers calls about inmates 24 hours a day at 970-453-2232.
All misdemeanor and felony arrests in this county end up here for booking and processing. From there, an inmate may be released on bond, released on their own recognizance, or held until the outcome of their trial, depending on the charges.
The inmate search tool lists everyone who has been arrested and is still being held.
Sentences shorter than one year are served locally. Sentences of a year or more are served in the Colorado State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Here you can learn how to search the jail roster, get directions to the facility, and use inmate services such as visitation, inmate account deposits, mail, phone calls, voicemail, email and text messages, tablets, bail bonds, and commissary.
Before you send anything, get the inmate’s booking number or jail ID. If it doesn’t show up online, the staff at Summit County Detention Facility can give it to you at 970-453-2232.

Crimewatch only lists warrants from agencies that post there, so it isn’t a complete record of every active warrant.
Defendants charged with non-capital offenses in Summit County and throughout Colorado are generally eligible for reasonable bail, while those charged with petty or traffic offenses usually have no monetary bail requirement. Colorado statutes list several factors judges consider:
• The defendant’s finances and job.
• Family ties and length of time living in the area.
• The nature and severity of the offense.
• Prior criminal record.
For an inmate’s exact bail amount, call the Summit County Detention Facility at 970-453-2232. The county accepts cash, a surety bond, or a property bond, or may release an offender on personal recognizance.
While licensed for 93 inmates, the Summit County Detention Facility often exceeds that number, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Colorado turn over at least 35-40% of their inmates each month, another 25-30% every 90 days, and another 15-20% every six months. Approximately 8-9% remain incarcerated for six to twelve months. Those held longer than a year are typically facing serious charges such as rape or murder, which take longer to prepare for trial, so offenders arrested in this county on those charges stay in one of the Summit County facilities much longer.
Law enforcement agencies in Summit County arrest and detain approximately 1,860 offenders every year.
