Back to questions ↑What if someone in Summit County faces federal charges?
Any federal charge from Summit County does not stay in the county courts. Hearings take place at the Alfred A. Arraj U.S. Courthouse in Denver, 901 19th Street, Denver, CO 80294, and the court clerk is at 303-844-3433. Not long after booking, the person meets a U.S. magistrate judge for the first court date.
There is no preset bail figure. So a federal judge holds a detention review hearing and rules on whether the accused stays locked up before trial and with what limits. Before trial, most Summit federal prisoners stay in a local jail; that jail has a deal with the U.S. Marshals. To ask their location, call the Marshals on 303-728-7800. If a federal prison term is given, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) selects a prison; the BOP inmate locator lists where the arrested person was sent.
Back to questions ↑What should families know about a Summit County ICE hold?
First: When someone is booked, prints go to national databases that ICE may see.
Next: When ICE is interested, it issues a detainer on Form I-247A to the Summit jail.
Then: The I-247A seeks up to 48 added hours after the release time. That time counts nonstop; Saturdays, Sundays and holidays still count.
But: Colorado's statute, C.R.S. 24-76.6-102, says jails cannot keep someone longer solely because ICE asked. So Summit County frees the defendant on schedule except if a separate lawful hold says otherwise.
Finally: ICE officers can come right at release and take your family member. When no one from ICE comes, your loved one goes free.
The detainee locator searches by A-number plus country of birth, or by name, birth country and birth date.
Some Colorado ICE detainees are held at the Denver Contract Detention Facility. Address: 3130 North Oakland Street, Aurora, CO 80010; phone 303-361-6612.
The Denver field office sits at 12445 East Caley Avenue, Centennial, CO 80111. Call 720-873-2899.
Back to questions ↑When is someone moved from Summit County to state prison?
A Colorado prison term begins after some time at county jail before CDOC transfer. CDOC intake decides the custody level after health and risk tests.
With a rating set, they're assigned to a prison that matches their needs. The CDOC search shows the prison; see state prisons in Colorado for more.
Back to questions ↑Can I get Summit County mugshots?
No. Summit posts no inmate list online, so no Summit mugshots are posted. VINELink (Summit County) tells you custody status only. Reporters who want a jail photo that isn't public can ask the Summit County sheriff's office by calling 970-453-2232.
A mugshot from ICE must be requested on ICE's FOIA request site; then ICE reviews it and may approve it.
Booking photos from federal cases are never given to the wider public and the media. The lone exception: the U.S. Marshals Service, the agency that snaps booking photos in federal cases, can share an image for a fugitive, if that helps track them down or alert individuals; it may also do so for an urgent public danger.
