It shares the Sheriff’s headquarters at 270 State Road 65, Eastpoint, FL 32328, a few miles north of US-98. Call (850) 670-8500. Major David Varnes, corrections administrator since 2004, oversees the jail. It holds adults awaiting trial and people serving county sentences of up to a year; longer sentences are served in state prison. Franklin County is on Eastern Time.
People arrested in Franklin County are booked here, and anyone without a preset bond gets a first appearance before a judge within 24 hours (Florida Rule 3.130). The county belongs to the Second Judicial Circuit. The Sheriff’s arrest log lists recent bookings and charges, and VINELink shows current custody status.
Florida’s Constitution (Art. I, §14) entitles most defendants to pretrial release on reasonable conditions. Franklin County Jail now offers Homewav ComPAS™ (Portable Access System) tablets to their inmates.
Homewav is the same company that handles the inmate phone system, video visitations, email and texting and digital letters.
The tablets can be rented on a monthly basis and while not directly connected to the internet, the inmates can use them for phone, visits, messages, education, self-help and entertainment.
