Booking happens at the downtown Lee County Jail, 2115 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33901, near the Lee County Justice Center. People may later move to another Lee jail. Jail: 239-477-1500. Lee County Sheriff's Office: 239-477-1000.
Back to questions ↑2. Lee inmate search and photos
Lee County Inmate Search shows which Lee jail holds someone, with charges, bond and a booking photo. VINELink warns you of a release or move.
Back to questions ↑3. Bond in Fort Myers
Lee is in the Twentieth Judicial Circuit. First appearance happens within 24 hours, often on video from the jail.
- ROR: no money, just a promise to return.
- Cash: post the total; the clerk refunds it later, less costs.
- Surety: a bondsman collects 10 percent, $100 minimum per count, and keeps it.
Collier, Charlotte or probation holds can keep a Lee inmate in. Missed hearings bring a capias. See our Lee bail guide.
Back to questions ↑4. Did a Cape Coral or Lehigh Acres warrant arrest end at the downtown jail?
It may have. Beside the Justice Center downtown, the jail takes arrests on warrants from Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres and Bonita Springs. The Sheriff's Office jail desk, 239-477-1000, confirms custody. Case records, capias entries included, open from the clerk's website; FDLE's statewide warrant list shows what outside departments have published. Wanted yourself? A defense lawyer can coordinate your surrender there and ask for bond the same day. Carry a photo ID, your case number, and enough cash or a card for any bond the judge sets. Visitation for people held downtown is scheduled online.
Back to questions ↑5. Public defender
Indigent Lee defendants can get the Twentieth Circuit Public Defender. Florida's $50 application fee may be waived.
Back to questions ↑6. Visiting Lee inmates
Visits depend on which Lee jail the person is in; video is common. Call 239-477-1500. Read visits and remote visits.
Back to questions ↑7. Phones
Lee inmates call out but can't take calls. Families set up prepaid accounts. Our phone, message and tablet pages explain.
Back to questions ↑8. Money
Commissary in Lee jails is paid from deposits made only through the sheriff's listed options. See money and commissary.
Back to questions ↑9. Mail
Look up which Lee jail the person is in, and send letters there with their name and booking number; stickers, glitter and perfume get mail rejected. See mail rules.
Back to questions ↑10. Lee juveniles
Lee teens under 18 are handled in juvenile court. A Lee youth the judge orders held stays at the Southwest Florida Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Fort Myers, 239-332-6927, for a hearing within 24 hours. Parents can call 239-477-1000.
Back to questions ↑11. Medical
Call 239-477-1500 about prescriptions, seizures, mental health or suicide risk.
Back to questions ↑12. Federal cases in Fort Myers
The U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, hears Lee federal cases a few blocks from the jail at 2110 First St., Fort Myers, FL 33901.
Fort Myers magistrates take the first appearance in Lee federal cases, and custody is argued at a detention hearing. The U.S. Marshals (239-286-6844) may hold the person in a county jail. Use the BOP website after sentencing.
Back to questions ↑13. ICE holds at the Lee County Jail
- Lee is one of the few Florida counties signed up for every 287(g) model ICE offers. Because one of them is the Jail Enforcement Model, deputies in the downtown booking area are trained to screen immigration status themselves.
- They or ICE can place an I-247A detainer.
- The jail may hold someone awaiting ICE transport up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released (8 CFR 287.7(d)).
- F.S. 908.105: Lee's bond judge and state attorney are notified, and the detainer is docketed.
- F.S. 907.041: a Lee forcible-felony booking of a person without lawful status keeps them in the downtown jail until a first appearance judge rules. That judge begins by presuming detention; defense lawyers can argue against it.
- F.S. 908.11: every Florida sheriff with a jail must sign 287(g).
- Cape Coral and Fort Myers families can use ICE's locator with an A-number, or reach the Miami field office, 2805 SW 145th Ave., Miramar, FL 33027, 954-843-5800.
14. State prison
Lee inmates sentenced to prison stay in county custody until FDC transport. A reception center then classifies them. See the FDC search; Florida prisons are listed.
Back to questions ↑15. Lee mugshots online
Yes. Open a booking in the Lee arrest search and its mugshot shows at the top. For a certified copy, contact the sheriff's office at 239-477-1000. F.S. 119.071 exempts certain photos.
Any ICE booking photo is released only through the agency's FOIA office. Federal mugshots of Lee defendants stay sealed unless the Marshals post a fugitive alert.
