You can call the 1300-bed Manatee County Jail 24 hours a day for inmate information at 941-723-5132.

This facility handles the booking and processing of individuals arrested for misdemeanors and felonies. Depending on the charges, they may remain in custody until they are either bonded out, released on recognizance, or ordered to remain in custody until the conclusion of their trial.

The inmate search tool allows you to view the jail’s roster and find out who is currently in custody.

Those sentenced to less than one year will serve their time at this jail. Inmates with longer sentences are transferred to either the Florida State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

This page provides information on inmate services such as the visitation schedule, funding an inmate's account, sending mail, receiving phone calls, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, bail bond instructions, and commissary purchases.

It is helpful to save the inmate’s jail ID or booking number for correspondence. If you cannot locate it online, you can call Manatee County Jail at 941-723-5132 for assistance.

To search the Manatee County Jail for an inmate and review their charges, bond, visitation eligibility, or mugshot, go to the Official Jail Inmate Roster. Many counties post criminal court cases online through a shared portal.

Manatee County Jail Inmate Search

Florida law entitles most people arrested in Manatee County to reasonable pretrial release, unless they are charged with a capital or life felony and the proof is evident, or a judge finds no conditions would protect the public. Lower-level misdemeanors and traffic cases are often handled with a notice to appear. Bond amounts for most other charges come from a uniform statewide bond schedule set by the Florida Supreme Court.

The easiest way to learn an offender’s bail at the Manatee County Jail is to call 941-723-5132. For a general idea, compare the charge to the Florida uniform statewide bond schedule for 2026. Circuits may set higher local amounts, and a judge at first appearance, usually within 24 hours, can set a different bond. The county takes cash, surety bonds, and property bonds, and can also release an offender on personal recognizance.

The Manatee County Jail’s license covers 1300 inmates, but the jail often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Florida experience a monthly turnover of at least 35-40%, another 25-30% every 90 days, and another 15-20% every six months, with about 8-9% of inmates staying six to twelve months. Those who stay longer than a year usually face serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in this county remain in one of the Manatee County facilities much longer.

Every year, Manatee County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 27,200 offenders.

About the Manatee County Jail

The Manatee County Jail in Florida has a capacity of 1300 inmates. Visitation rules allow for a maximum of two adults and three children to visit at a time, and the facility offers reintegration programming.

The Manatee County Jail is run by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at 14470 Harlee Road in Palmetto, FL 34221, in the rural northern part of the county. The main sheriff’s office number is (941) 747-3011. According to Manatee County’s capital improvement plan, the jail opened in the mid-1990s with room for about 600 people. It now regularly holds 950 to 1,050, and 50 to 60 of them are in medical housing on a typical day. The county is building a new medical wing, funded by the infrastructure sales tax, to add mental health, detox and medical space. The jail holds adult men and women awaiting trial as well as people serving county sentences of up to a year. Longer state sentences are served with the Florida Department of Corrections.

People arrested anywhere in Manatee County, including by Bradenton and Palmetto police, are generally booked here. Within 24 hours of arrest, each person has a first appearance hearing before a judge, as Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.130 requires. The judge reviews probable cause and sets release conditions. Manatee is part of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit, along with Sarasota and DeSoto counties. You can look up custody status, charges and bond amounts on the sheriff’s jail page, which links to the online arrest inquiry.

Some background on bail in Florida: the state constitution (Art. I, §14) gives most defendants a right to pretrial release on reasonable conditions. The exceptions are capital or life felonies where the proof is evident or the presumption great, and cases where no conditions can protect the public. Until first appearance, bond amounts come from the Florida Supreme Court’s 2026 uniform bond schedule, AOSC25-69, which sets statewide minimums for all of 2026. The Twelfth Circuit’s chief judge may set higher local amounts, and the judge at first appearance can depart from the schedule. Certain serious charges can’t be bonded out until a judge sees the person (§903.011, §903.046, §907.041, Fla. Stat.). For minor misdemeanors, many people get a notice to appear instead of a bond. To post a bond, you can pay the full amount yourself at the jail or go through a licensed bail bond agent. Florida’s Department of Financial Services puts the agent’s premium on a state bond at 10% of the bail, and it isn’t refundable once the person is out. The sheriff’s charges and bond page explains where and how to pay. Check it or call before you go, because accepted payment types and lobby hours can change.

Social visits are non-contact video visits held at the Sheriff’s Visitation Center, 2705 County Line Road, Palmetto, not at the jail itself. All visits must be booked ahead of time, and several published sources say remote video visits from home are also available for a fee. Details reported by secondary sources, including the scheduling vendor, the weekly visit limit and daily hours, don’t fully agree. Check the sheriff’s visitation page or call the scheduling line at (941) 747-3011, ext. 2902, to confirm the current rules. Bring a valid photo ID, and plan on children needing an adult with them.

The sheriff’s office has recently changed how personal mail is handled. Read the mail guidelines before you write, because mail sent to the wrong address or in the wrong format is returned. Legal mail still goes to the jail. For money, phone accounts and tablets, the jail page lists the current deposit and calling vendors. There’s also a deposit kiosk at the Visitation Center.

To check for warrants, start with the FDLE wanted persons search. Keep in mind that it doesn’t list every warrant, and a clean result isn’t a guarantee. For a definite answer, call the sheriff’s office or the Manatee County Clerk of Court.

The jail sits well north of downtown Palmetto, and we couldn’t confirm any regular Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) route that stops there, so most visitors drive. For fuel, RaceTrac at 9606 US-41 and Circle K at 9700 US-41 are a few miles south near Moccasin Wallow Road. For food, Wendy’s at 8101 Moccasin Wallow Road and Jaxx Wing Co. at 4927 96th Street E are close by.
