Combined with the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office, the Okeechobee County Jail stretches almost an entire block and stands only one story high, housing both misdemeanor and felony charges both before and after their sentencing has occurred. The top capacity of the detention center is 344, which includes four housing units to meet all security needs, minimum, medium, and maximum, to provide safe housing for both male and female inmates.
The Okeechobee County Jail, which the sheriff’s office also calls the Okeechobee County Correctional Facility, is run by the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office at 504 NW 4th Street, Okeechobee, FL 34972. The phone number is (863) 763-3117. The jail has 344 beds in four housing units, plus two negative-pressure rooms for isolating contagious illness. Its Corrections Division has 75 staff, 58 of them sworn detention deputies, transport deputies and courthouse security. Like other Florida county jails, it holds people awaiting trial and people serving county sentences of a year or less. Anyone sentenced to longer goes to state prison.
After an arrest, anyone who isn’t released sees a judge within 24 hours under Rule 3.130. Okeechobee County is in the 19th Judicial Circuit. Under Article I, Section 14 of the Florida Constitution, most people qualify for pretrial release on reasonable conditions, except in capital or life felony cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great, or when no conditions can protect the community. The Florida Supreme Court’s 2026 bond schedule (AOSC25-69) sets minimum bonds before first appearance. The 19th Circuit’s chief judge may set higher ones, the first appearance judge can set a different amount, and some charges need a judge’s review first (sections 903.011, 903.046, 907.041). Minor misdemeanors often end with a notice to appear. Bail bond agents must charge the premium rate filed with the state (section 648.33). The sheriff’s site doesn’t explain how to post a cash bond, so call the jail for accepted payment types and hours.
There are no in-person visits. All visits are remote video calls through HomeWAV, made from your own phone, tablet or computer. Visits run 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, except 12–1 p.m. and 5:30–6:30 p.m. HomeWAV charges $0.11 a minute for video or phone calls, $0.03 per text and $0.40 per video message, with no minimum call length. You’ll need to pass HomeWAV’s photo ID check. The jail’s visitation page lists a strict dress code for everyone on camera, children included. Shorts and skirts must fall below the knee, shirts need sleeves, and no tight clothing, cleavage or bare stomachs. A visit is ended immediately if the dress code isn’t followed.

We couldn’t find a fixed-route bus serving the jail. Most people drive, and since visits are remote, you’ll mainly come in person for deposits, bonds or release.
