Cobb County Adult Detention Center Inmate Search
Cobb County Adult Detention Center and Work Release inmates: lookups, visits, calls, mail, health needs and transfers
Sheriff's deputies operate two custody buildings on County Services Parkway in Marietta. The Adult Detention Center, 1825 County Services Parkway, Marietta, GA 30008, is the pretrial jail, with towers A, B and C. The Work Deployment Center holds sentenced, non-violent people on county work crews or work release. The ADC desk answers 770-499-4200, and each booking appears in our inmate search.
Enter a last name in our inmate search first. An after-midnight arrest can take hours to appear in the lookup, because intake covers photos, prints, property and a medical screen. People moved to work release stay in the sheriff's custody, so the same record often follows them across the parking lot.
Release steps sit on our bail page and Marietta Square hearings on our court page. Warrant questions go to deputies at 770-499-4634. Statutory clocks and surety caps are condensed in our Georgia bail laws guide. Questions further down deal with tower visits, envelopes, medical warnings, ICE holds and moves to prison.
1. Where are people arrested in this county held?
At the sheriff's Adult Detention Center, 1825 County Services Parkway, Marietta, GA 30008, a pretrial jail with a total of 3,077 beds across towers A, B and C. Custody questions go to 770-499-4200.
County officers, deputies, troopers and most city police bring adults here. Run the name through our inmate search and copy down the booking number; deposits, phone accounts, letters and bonds all ask for it. A warrant from Paulding, Fulton or elsewhere may lead to a ride to that county later. Juveniles never go to the adult towers; they are placed at the regional youth center farther down the parkway.
↑ Back to the question list2. What is the Work Release center?
The sheriff's Work Deployment Center, on County Services Parkway beside the main jail, houses sentenced, non-violent people. Some go out daily on supervised county work crews; others are on work release, leaving for a job, school or training and returning afterward.
Qualifying for work release takes a background investigation plus proof of employment or enrollment. Questions about visiting work release participants go to that building's own desk, 770-499-4340. Pretrial detainees stay in the main jail. Because everyone in this building is serving a sentence, there is no bond to post, and release dates follow the court's order.
↑ Back to the question list3. How do I look someone up?
Search a family name in our inmate search and compare age and booking date to pick the right match. Weekend surges at the towers can hold back fresh entries for hours.
Zero hits may reflect a ticket-and-release, a bond already paid, a move elsewhere, or marshals taking custody. Staff at 770-499-4200 can search a legal name with a birth date. By statute the sheriff maintains a docket the public may inspect. People already serving state sentences show instead in the state offender lookup. Frequent surnames produce long result lists; adding a middle initial trims them.
↑ Back to the question list4. How do visits, calls, mail, deposits and commissary work?
Separate guides exist for visits, phones, mail, deposits and commissary. The sheriff's office has visitors register before a detainee visit, and nobody inside can receive an incoming phone call.
Rules and times change, so ring 770-499-4200 the day before driving to Marietta, and bring photo ID. Money sent in covers calls, messages, snacks and hygiene items, and each payment needs the booking number. Assume monitoring of each call and message, other than privileged conversations with counsel. Work release participants follow a separate visiting arrangement through their own desk.
↑ Back to the question list5. How should letters be addressed?
Put the full name and booking number above the jail address, 1825 County Services Parkway, Marietta, GA 30008. Stick to unadorned white paper and envelopes.
Tape, stickers and cash get mail bounced, and attorneys should mark legal correspondence clearly. Rules on photographs, books and magazines live on our mail page; call 770-499-4200 about anything sent back. Hold off writing while a move is underway, resuming once the new address is known. Numbering envelopes on the back helps both sides notice a missing letter. Postcards may follow separate rules, so read the mail page first.
↑ Back to the question list6. How do I check for a warrant?
The sheriff's warrant unit answers 770-499-4634. Magistrate Court at 32 Waddell Street, Marietta, GA 30090, 770-528-8900, signs most local warrants.
Counsel can schedule a walk-in surrender around a Waddell Street calendar, often trimming time spent in a cell. No deputy collects warrant money over the phone, and anyone asking is running a scam. Courthouse screening on Marietta Square bars knives and firearms, so leave them home and carry ID and any court papers. Felony matters already indicted sit with the Superior Court clerk on Haynes Street.
↑ Back to the question list7. Can the family get a free lawyer?
People who cannot afford counsel may be represented by the county's Circuit Defender's Office, 770-528-1950.
Speak up at the opening hearing and request appointed counsel. The screening involves a finances form plus a sworn notice, and the judge may excuse the $50 charge. Relatives preparing for a bond argument can round up paychecks, a power bill and a supervisor's letter. A coach, pastor or employer willing to write a letter adds weight on local ties. Hearing stages around Marietta Square are mapped on our court page. The office never takes payment from clients.
↑ Back to the question list8. How long does release take?
After the Visitor's Center accepts a bond, deputies search for detainers, process discharge papers and hand back belongings, a stretch that commonly runs hours and grows on packed weekends.
Without a set figure, nothing moves until a magistrate rules. Payment routes appear on our bail page, and 770-499-4200 reports discharge progress. Arrange transportation and bring a charged phone. Unused account money may be handed over at the door or mailed later, so ask in advance. Releases at two or three in the morning happen often, so whoever waits in the parkway lot should pack patience. Property bags from booking are usually returned at the door.
↑ Back to the question list9. Where are juveniles detained?
Anyone younger than 17 belongs to juvenile court, and when a judge orders secure custody the destination is the Marietta Regional Youth Detention Center, 1575 County Services Parkway, Marietta, GA 30008, 770-528-4287.
The center serves four counties: Cherokee, Douglas, Paulding and this one. Within days a juvenile judge revisits that placement. Grades, medicine lists and names of reliable grown-ups help parents make a case. No minor appears in the adult listing. A handful of violent felonies move 15- and 16-year-olds into Superior Court. The center sets its own visiting schedule, so call before driving over. DJJ's Decatur headquarters can be reached on 404-508-6500.
↑ Back to the question list10. Who should I tell about a medical need?
Call 770-499-4200 promptly when someone inside has seizures, diabetes, heart trouble, a pregnancy, withdrawal risk or talk of self-harm, and give each medication, dose and prescriber.
Medical staff may keep details private from family but should log the warning. Mention allergies, surgeries and psychiatric diagnoses too. If care seems lacking, defense counsel can ask the court for records or specific treatment. Log each conversation, noting when it happened and who answered. A printed list from the pharmacy or doctor makes the report precise and quicker to act on.
↑ Back to the question list11. What happens after an ICE detainer?
Inside the County Services Parkway towers, an ICE hold generally moves through these stages.
- Booking fingerprints go to federal databases for matching.
- Booking officers screen immigration standing under section 42-4-14 and notify federal officers if lawful presence remains unproven.
- A Form I-247A may arrive from agents, and 8 CFR 287.7(d) caps the extra custody at 48 hours, with Saturday, Sunday and holidays not counted.
- Once those hours pass with no pickup, the detainer no longer justifies custody.
- Once agents collect the person, track the new facility through the ICE locator site.
Paying the state bond remains an option for relatives, but federal officers might be standing by at release. ICE Atlanta is at 180 Ted Turner Drive SW, Suite 522, Atlanta, GA 30303, 404-893-1290. Talk to immigration counsel before spending money on bond.
↑ Back to the question list12. What if the case becomes federal?
Federal cases from here are heard at 75 Ted Turner Drive SW, Atlanta, GA 30303, 404-215-1600, in the Atlanta Division. Detention there is decided by a federal magistrate applying 18 U.S.C. 3142, and bail bond companies have no role.
Custody belongs to the Marshals, who lease beds from county jails and shuttle prisoners without warning. Before any trip, have the defense attorney say which facility holds the client that day. Those unable to pay get a federal defender or a lawyer from the CJA panel. The Bureau of Prisons locator later reveals the designated prison along with its visitor rules.
↑ Back to the question list13. What happens after a prison sentence?
The person usually waits at the parkway jail until state corrections sends transport to a diagnostic center, and families rarely learn the date in advance.
Watch for the new location in the state offender lookup; prison visiting and mail rules are in our Georgia state prisons guide. Phone 770-499-4200 about refunding any account money, and stop letters until a prison address appears. Classification at the diagnostic center often lasts several weeks, and visiting there is limited until a permanent assignment is made. Shorter local sentences may instead be served at the Work Deployment Center.
↑ Back to the question list14. Can I see mugshots online?
Georgia's section 35-1-19 bars sheriffs and police from putting booking photos on their websites; nonetheless a records request to the Sheriff's Office headquarters, 185 Roswell Street, Marietta, GA 30090, 770-499-4611, can still produce one.
Expect to sign a statement promising not to pass images to sites that charge for removal. Once charges are dismissed or a jury acquits, section 10-1-393.5 requires such sites to delete a photo within 30 days at no cost. ICE files come through the ICE FOIA request page, and federal booking photos through a written Marshals Service request. A certified disposition from the clerk strengthens any takedown demand.
↑ Back to the question list15. Which law enforcement agencies serve the county?
Most bookings at the Marietta complex begin with one of these agencies; true emergencies always go to 911.
- Sheriff's Office headquarters, which runs the County Services Parkway jail and serves warrants: 185 Roswell Street, Marietta, GA 30090; 770-499-4611.
- County police department, the patrol force for unincorporated neighborhoods: 545 South Fairground Street, Marietta, GA 30060; 770-499-3900.
- Georgia State Patrol Post 83, covering state roads north of I-285: 3330 Woodhaven Road, Atlanta, GA 30305; 404-624-7272.
- Adult Detention Center intake and custody desk: 1825 County Services Parkway, Marietta, GA 30008; 770-499-4200.
- Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Atlanta field office: 180 Ted Turner Drive SW, Suite 522, Atlanta, GA 30303; 404-893-1290.
Marietta, Smyrna, Kennesaw, Acworth, Austell and Powder Springs field their own officers, and a city arrest may start in that city's municipal court. Inside I-285, troopers from the Atlanta post handle the interstates. Copies of incident reports must be requested from the arresting department itself, whose name appears on the booking entry.
