The Lake County Juvenile Center not only houses the juvenile offenders who are determined to require detention, but also operations medical, mental health, and educational programs as well as the four alternatives to detention. The alternatives to detention are intended to reduced the detention of juveniles by providing them with probation, home supervision, or intense probation. Each weekday there are regular classes during the school hours observed outside of the facility, along with additional hours at the end of the day to provide extra help, advanced classes, GED classes, and other opportunities. Physical education, arts, and reading for those who need them. All meals are provided and designed to be healthy and cover all nutritional needs. Science, Life Skills, Math's, and English are also taught, and will follow the curriculum of the home schools in the area so they are able to transition easily back to their schools after their term of detention. Staff work to keep a positive environment while also ensuring safety and security. Discipline methods are non damaging and work with a reward system, while order is maintained throughout the day. Constructive activities are used to fill the time and to ensure a well rounded experience.
