With 96 beds at full capacity, the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center houses all of the youth offenders and others who are in need while awaiting alternative housing. It is operated by the Indiana Sheriff and meets all of the federal and state regulations and requirements for the type of facility. The building is equipped with security cameras to ensure the safety of the staff and students and to maintain the safety of the residents and the community. The local schools work closely with the facility to ensure that ongoing education is provided and the students are able to remain on the same curriculum as the students in their home school. Physical education, art, and other classes are all held each weekday. All needed school supplies are provided. Medical care is provided for those with ongoing requirements as well as in any emergency situations, with transportation to local emergency rooms if needed. Students are encouraged to develop life skills and to proactive positive social skills and interactions. During recreational time there is access to games, cards, books, and activities.
