Addressing Letters to the Denison Jail
The jail's listing gives this format for personal mail, using the Law Enforcement Center's Broadway address and the full Denison ZIP code:
[Inmate's full name], ID [number]
Crawford County Jail
1202 Broadway
Denison, IA 51442
A Denison-bound envelope lacking the writer's name and street or box address at top left will probably be shredded by Rasmussen's mail officers instead of delivered. Letters to Broadway go in blue or black ink only, with no doodles, glitter, confetti, lipstick marks, perfume, crayon or marker. Staff open every piece, remove contraband, and hand out mail Monday through Friday with no cap on how many letters an inmate receives.
Crawford County inmates may write family and friends but not co-defendants, prisoners in any facility, or anyone covered by a no-contact order. Crawford County jailers will not credit dollar bills or personal checks tucked into a letter, so follow the Denison deposit guide for kiosk and money-order deposits instead.

Letters and cards for a Denison inmate
Each envelope or postcard needs the sender's full name and return address. The jail's listing asks that greeting cards be plain and free of music, and Rasmussen's staff at 712-263-2146 can describe the postcard sizes and styles the Denison mailroom takes.
Lawyer letters, newspapers and magazines for Suite 3
A defense attorney's envelope, a mailed money order and a magazine subscription all share the inmate-name-and-ID heading over 1202 Broadway, Denison 51442. Newspapers, magazines and books must arrive new and straight from the publisher, and the jail confiscates any issue with profanity, weapons, pornography or other adult content.
Ordering books from a retailer
Families hoping to ship a hardcover or a box from Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million to someone in Suite 3 should first ask the Law Enforcement Center line whether Rasmussen's mailroom will accept that seller and binding.
