Inmates at the Allen County Jail, now that the COVID pandemic is waning, once again allows inmates to get visits from friends and loved ones. Visits are either on-site (no contact) at the facility, and/or using the video services of the third party company outlined below.

Call 620-365-1400 for inmate communication updates as schedules can change without much advance notice.

Allen County Jail inmates are allowed one to two visits of 30 minutes each at the facility, and potentially no limit on the number of visits when using the home based video visitation service.

Rules, guidelines and schedules are listed on this page. Failure to adhere to them will result in your inmate and you losing your visitation privileges.

Video Visitation at Allen County Jail

Allen County Jail uses the services of Inmate Canteen for 'At the Jail' Visitation with Inmates.

Instructions on Inmate Video Visitation:

  • Register or Log in to your account
  • Select the facility where the inmate is located and the inmate you wish to visit.
  • Select the "Video Visit an Inmate" option
  • Follow the prompts on screen to schedule the visit.

    Video Visitation must be done from a computer using Google Chrome and an updated Adobe Flash player. Before starting this process you must make sure that your Adobe Flash player is fully updated and that you are using Google Chrome. First... Set up Flash, then restart your computer and then go to Google Chrome on your desktop or laptop computer and log on to Inmate Canteen.
    Steps Inmate canteen Visitation:
    1. Go to www.inmatecanteen.com on a computer (not supported on mobile devices i.e. tablets, cell phones, etc)
    2. Log in, select your inmate, and select the Video Visit an Inmate option.
    3. You will be required to fill out a form, submit a driver's license picture and a picture of your face. Once submitted, Allen County Jail will either approve or deny it.
    4. Once approved you will be all set to video visit!
    NOTES: Make sure you are allowing flash player to run in google chrome by selecting the lock icon to left of the browser. Flash Player needs to be set to “allow”. Then you can refresh the page and it should be good to go. If flash player is being blocked you will not be able to take a picture or see any video during the visitation. When you click on the video visitation link on the website, please visit the Audition Room to test your equipment. To find the Audition Room, please click on 'Video Visit an Inmate' and it will be located on the top of your screen. Here you can test and verify that your webcam and microphone are working. We highly recommend a hard line for video visiting, unstable internet can result in poor visit qualities.

Visiting Hours in Allen County Jail

The actual visiting hours vary depending on the following factors:

  • The day of the week.
  • Where the inmate is housed.
  • The inmate's sex.
  • Whether or not it is a Holiday.
  • Each inmate is allowed one or two visits, ranging from 15 minutes to one hour in length each week. Inmates with special privileges are allowed additional visits.

Who Can Visit an Inmate in Allen County Jail

Anyone over the age of 18, who isn't on felony probation and can produce a valid government-issued photo ID can be approved to visit an inmate in this jail.
Visitation applicants in Allen County must sometimes submit to a background check. Those with warrants are denied visitation or if allowed to visit, will be arrested at the jail.
Jails limit the number of people that can visit an inmate to two adults each visit.
Children under age 18 must be accompanied by the parent or legal guardian.

The Allen County Jail staff reserves the right to turn anyone away who is not dressed appropriately for a visit.
The best way to be sure the visit takes place is to dress as if you are meeting someone's grandmother for the first time. 

  • Wear clothes that are not revealing.
  • Don't wear see-through material.
  • Have all undergarments covered (males and females) and avoid a lot of cleavage.
  • Shorts and skirts should reach mid-thigh.
  • Sleeves should be at least half-way to your elbow.

The following types of clothing are also prohibited:

  • Clothing promoting gang affiliation.
  • Anything displaying drugs, weapons or profanity.
  • Clothing depicting anything obscene.
