↑ Back to the question list

For visit problems such as a failed connection or a missing booking, call 859-334-0959. Test your camera and internet before the visit, and log in a few minutes early. Rules about dress and conduct apply on video too; our visit guide lists them.

↑ Back to the question list

Where do I pay bond?

Weekdays 8 to 4, pay bond at the Judicial Center clerk; other times, at the jail, in cash. Cards are not taken for bonds. Our bail guide explains bond types, Pretrial Services and refunds.

↑ Back to the question list

How do I put money on an account?

Use the Building 1 lobby kiosk (cash or card, any hour), the jail's online deposit site, or call 855-836-3364. By post, send only a money order, cashier's check or certified check made out to Daviess County Detention Center, with the inmate's name in the memo, to the bookkeeper at DCDC, 3337 Highway 144, Owensboro, KY 42303. See our money guide.

↑ Back to the question list

How does commissary ordering work?

Commissary is ordered on the kiosk or tablet. Orders close at midnight on Sundays and Wednesdays and are delivered Tuesdays and Fridays, up to $150 per commissary day. Money must be on the account before the deadline. See our commissary guide.

↑ Back to the question list

↑ Back to the question list

How should letters be addressed?

Address letters to the inmate's name, DCDC, 3337 Highway 144, Owensboro, KY 42303, with your full name and address on the outside. Do not send cash, regular checks or items other than photos. Mail is opened and checked for contraband. See our mail guide.

↑ Back to the question list

Are there jail fees?

County inmates pay a $35 booking fee. Other charges may be taken from the account, which can lower the balance families add. Ask the jail at 270-685-8466 what is owed, and keep deposit receipts in case of a question later.

↑ Back to the question list

How is a lawyer appointed?

The Owensboro Trial Office of the public defender (920 Frederica Street, Suite 1006, Owensboro, KY 42301; 833-514-8980) serves those who qualify. A judge reviews a financial form at arraignment. Relatives who phone that office with the case number can learn the attorney's name. See our court guide.

↑ Back to the question list

Can I check for warrants online?

Call the Daviess County Sheriff's Office at 270-685-8444 to learn whether a warrant has been issued. An attorney can check as well and, if one turns up, arrange a time to come in so a judge at the Holbrook Judicial Center can set bond.

↑ Back to the question list

What happens if a juvenile is arrested?

Youths are kept separate from adults. A juvenile who is held must see a judge in 48 hours, skipping weekends and holidays (KRS 610.265). The state Department of Juvenile Justice decides placement (502-573-2738) and tells parents where the child goes.

↑ Back to the question list

Can I get a booking photo?

Look first on the roster. Other requests go to the jail in writing under the open records law. News media can ask the sheriff's office as well. For ICE photos, use the ICE records request form. A federal mugshot normally stays private; the exception is a wanted-fugitive notice put out by the Marshals.

↑ Back to the question list

What happens after a federal arrest?

Daviess federal arrests are handled in Owensboro, which has both a federal courtroom and a Marshals office. The U.S. District Court, Western District of Kentucky, sits at 423 Frederica Street, Owensboro, KY 42301, 270-689-4400, and families can ask the U.S. Marshals there, 270-852-2645, which jail is holding the defendant before trial. A magistrate judge sees the defendant at the first appearance and can schedule a detention hearing. After sentencing, search the federal prison locator.

↑ Back to the question list

How does an ICE hold work?

At the Daviess County Detention Center (270-685-8466), an ICE hold first begins with Form I-247A, which asks the jail to notify ICE and keep the person; ERO Louisville (502-625-6202) is the nearest ICE office. Then, once the state case permits release, ICE may have the Owensboro detention center keep them for no more than 48 hours past that release. If ICE does not come for pickup within that period, the hold ends. A person ICE does take may be moved to a detention center in another state, so track the case with the ICE finder.

↑ Back to the question list

How do I locate a state prisoner?

Corrections screens and classifies each person after sentencing, then sends them to a prison that matches. A few serve their time in county jails. The KOOL lookup shows the current location; see our prisons in Kentucky for each prison's address.

↑ Back to the question list

What if the arrest happened outside Daviess County?

An arrest across the county line is booked by that county, not on Highway 144. If the roster here has no match, call the Henderson County Detention Center, 380 Borax Drive, Henderson, KY 42420, 270-827-5560; the Ohio County Detention Center, 108 E. Washington St., Hartford, KY 42347, 270-298-4455; the Muhlenberg County Detention Center, 108 Court Row, Greenville, KY 42345, 270-338-2263; or the Breckinridge County Detention Center, 500 Glen Nash Ln, Hardinsburg, KY 40143, 270-756-6244.
