The Bossier Parish Juvenile Division operates the Bossier City Juvenile Detention Home along with the Diversion Program which offers alternatives to incarceration and early interventions, the Teen Cout that allows juveniles to choose to have a jury of their peers to determine their sentence which works to keep minor offenses out of the courts, and other programs. The detention center is for youth under 17 years of age who are accused of misdemeanors. Within the detention home there are healthy meals provided, beds and bedding along with clean clothing, the facility is cleaned throughout the day, and recreational space is provided. During the school days students will attend classes provided by local teachers and will coincide with their schools outside of the facility. By providing diversion programs, the number of youths who find themselves within the detention home is low, and they are there for only a temporary stay while they await adjudication or serve a short sentence of detention. After diversion programs have failed, the youth will be rehabilitated in the detention home with a focus on learning new skills and decision making to prevent instances of a return to detention in the future. Each piece of mail must follow the rules that are provided to the juvenile, and any contraband, illegal items, or mail that is against the rules will be confiscated by staff. Phones: In each of the common areas, phones are provided that may be accessed regularly by the juveniles in residence to call approved contacts, most often their parents and guardians. Visitation: Each juvenile will receive visits from approved visitors at least once each week.
