Iberia Parish Jail Inmate Search
Iberia Parish Inmate Search and Mugshots, New Iberia
Iberia's sheriff runs a free inmate search for the Iberia Parish Criminal Justice Facility at 3618 Broken Arrow Road, New Iberia, LA 70560, reachable at 337-369-2431. This page walks a family through that search, booking photos, the 72-hour hearing, cash and property bonds filed through the clerk on Iberia Street, contact and commissary, release, U.S. Marshals and ICE detainers, and a phone list for every police force in the parish.
1. Where is the Iberia Parish jail, and what are its phone numbers?
- Iberia Parish Criminal Justice Facility: 3618 Broken Arrow Road, New Iberia, LA 70560, 337-369-2431, answered around the clock.
- Jail fax: 337-369-7672.
- Sheriff's administrative office: 300 Iberia Street, New Iberia, LA 70560, 337-369-3714, open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Broken Arrow Road sits south of downtown New Iberia off Louisiana 3212; some state records label the same spot as Parish Road 515.
↑ Back to the question list2. How does the IPSO inmate search work?
- Open the IPSO inmate search.
- Enter a surname, using a partial spelling if you're unsure.
- Click "Read More" beside a match to see booking date, charges and any bond listed.
- Choose "Notify Me of Status Change" to get an alert when that entry is updated, such as a release or transfer.
When a name will not come up, phone Broken Arrow Road at 337-369-2431.
↑ Back to the question list3. Does Iberia Parish post mugshots?
Entries we opened in October 2026 carried a blank placeholder image rather than a booking photo. A copy can be requested from IPSO at 337-369-3714. Louisiana's Act 281 of 2024, in force since August 1, 2024, lets Louisiana agencies share pre-conviction booking photos, and a pay-to-remove website has 7 days to drop the photo for free after a dismissal, acquittal, pardon or expungement.
Photos from an ICE arrest go through ICE's FOIA office; a federal booking photo comes from the U.S. Marshals. Acadiana news stations sometimes air booking photos from New Iberia; whether IPSO releases one is the sheriff's decision.
↑ Back to the question list4. Why is a fresh arrest missing from the search?
Deputies fingerprint, photograph and screen each arrival before the entry goes live, so the first hour or two after arrival can show nothing. Ring 337-369-2431 and give the legal name and birthday. City arrests can also sit at the New city police station briefly before transport.
↑ Back to the question list5. Where else could someone arrested near New Iberia be held?
Arrests across a parish line go to that parish. Try Lafayette Parish Correctional Center to the north, Vermilion Parish to the west, and the St. Martin and St. Mary parish jails east along U.S. 90. Federal arrests usually show in the BOP inmate locator only after a court date.
↑ Back to the question list6. Can someone be cited instead of jailed?
Yes. New Iberia and Jeanerette officers often write a summons for minor offenses. That person never appears in the IPSO search but must show up in New Iberia City Court or Jeanerette City Court when the paper says.
↑ Back to the question list7. How soon does a judge see someone booked in New Iberia?
Article 230.1 of the Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure sets 72 hours from arrest, leaving out weekends and legal holidays. A 16th Judicial District judge reviews probable cause, sets bail and appoints the public defender for anyone unable to hire counsel. If Iberia misses that deadline, the person goes free on a signature.
↑ Back to the question list8. Where can I see the Iberia bond amount?
Open "Read More" on the search entry; a bond figure appears once a judge sets one. A blank amount means bail has not been fixed, or a hold from another agency is keeping the person regardless. Ask Broken Arrow Road at 337-369-2431 what the total is across all charges before arranging money.
↑ Back to the question list9. What bond types does the 16th district accept?
Judges in New Iberia set the amount, and families can satisfy it in four ways: - Cash: the full amount, refunded through the clerk when the case ends, less court costs. - Property: land in Louisiana with enough equity, filed through the clerk. - Commercial surety: a licensed bondsman, whose state-regulated premium is capped at 12 percent. - Release on recognizance: a signature promise, only when a judge allows it.
Our Iberia bail guide explains each type in depth.
↑ Back to the question list10. How is a property bond done in Iberia Parish?
The clerk's property bond page lists these steps: 1. Get the judge's approval for a property bond, and confirm there are no holds that would keep the person jailed anyway. 2. Obtain the tax assessment from the Iberia assessor, 121 W. Pershing Street, Suite 100. 3. Order a mortgage certificate from the clerk, about $20 to $30, to show liens. 4. The sheriff's civil department at 300 Iberia Street prepares the Lien and Privilege form. 5. Record it with the clerk, roughly $110. 6. Deliver the recorded paperwork to the jail.
Removing the lien after the case closes costs about $60 and starts with the district attorney's office, second floor of the courthouse.
↑ Back to the question list11. Which courts handle local arrests?
- 16th Judicial District Court: felonies and state misdemeanors, at the Iberia Parish Courthouse, 300 Iberia Street, New Iberia.
- Iberia Parish Clerk of Court: 300 Iberia Street, Suite 100, New Iberia, LA 70560 (mail P.O. Drawer 12010, New Iberia, LA 70562-2010), 337-365-7282, weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The criminal section tracks docket numbers, hearing dates and cash bond refunds.
- New Iberia City Court and Jeanerette City Court take city misdemeanors and traffic tickets.
Our Iberia court guide has filing details.
↑ Back to the question list12. Who prosecutes and who defends Iberia cases?
- District attorney, 16th district: 300 Iberia Street, Suite 200, New Iberia, LA 70560, 337-369-4420.
- Public defender: 301 E. St. Peter Street, Suite 101, New Iberia, LA 70560, 337-365-4006, open 8:30 to 4:30 on weekdays.
Every jail call on Broken Arrow Road is recorded; save case details for a private visit with the defender.
↑ Back to the question list13. How do visits work at the parish jail?
Only people the inmate has placed on the visitor list may come, each with photo ID, and slots are scheduled ahead. On-site visits are free, while remote video visits carry a charge. Rules change, so call 337-369-2431 before the drive. Our visiting guide covers dress codes and booking.
↑ Back to the question list14. Can the person call home?
Yes, collect or prepaid calls go out from the housing units, and all are monitored except attorney calls. Relatives can fund a prepaid phone balance through the provider named at the jail. Our calls guide explains how. Video and text messages are explained in our messaging guide.
↑ Back to the question list15. How do I put money on an Iberia account or order commissary?
Funds can go on the account through the jail kiosk in the lobby or the online deposit service linked from the sheriff. That balance pays for commissary orders such as snacks, hygiene items and writing paper. Our deposit guide lists fees and limits.
↑ Back to the question list16. What address do letters to the New parish jail use?
Write the person's full legal name, then Iberia Parish Criminal Justice Facility, 3618 Broken Arrow Road, New Iberia, LA 70560, with the sender's name and return address in the corner. Ask the jail before mailing photos or books, which face extra limits. For the basics, read our mail guide.
↑ Back to the question list17. What if the person needs medication?
Tell Broken Arrow Road at 337-369-2431 about every prescription and diagnosis. Medical staff verify drugs with the prescribing doctor or pharmacy before dispensing, and families generally cannot drop off pills.
↑ Back to the question list18. After bond posts, how long until they walk out?
Count on a few hours. Staff check for detainers and warrants elsewhere, process the court paperwork and return clothing and property. Call 337-369-2431 before leaving home so you know which door to wait at.
↑ Back to the question list19. Where do parish prisoners serve state time?
After a Department of Corrections sentence, a person can stay in New Iberia until DOC moves them to a reception center. Track them with the DOC locator line 225-383-4580 or our Louisiana state prisons list.
↑ Back to the question list20. Is there an open Iberia Parish warrant?
IPSO's warrant division at 337-369-3714 handles parish warrants, and New Iberia city police at 337-369-2306 answer for city ones. The New Iberia sheriff shares no names online, and statewide searching isn't possible. A surrender at Iberia Parish Jail arranged through a lawyer usually goes faster and calmer. For a warrant caused by a missed hearing, the Clerk of Court on Iberia Street, 337-365-7282, can tell you how to get a new court date.
↑ Back to the question list21. Where are juveniles from Iberia held?
Children under 17 go to juvenile court, since Louisiana returned 17-year-olds to adult court on April 19, 2024. Iberia runs no youth detention center, so a child ordered held is placed in a regional center; see our Lafayette juvenile detention page and confirm with IPSO.
↑ Back to the question list22. What if federal agents arrested them in Iberia?
Those cases go to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Lafayette Division, clerk at 800 Lafayette Street, Suite 2100, Lafayette, LA 70501, 337-593-5000. A Lafayette magistrate decides detention under 18 U.S.C. 3142 once pretrial services files its report. U.S. Marshals, same building, Suite 1100: 337-262-6666.
↑ Back to the question list23. How does an ICE hold work in New Iberia?
- Broken Arrow Road fingerprints are compared with Homeland Security records, and ICE may file a detainer.
- Posting the parish bond does not cancel it.
- Jailers may keep the person up to 48 hours past normal release for an ICE pickup.
- If agents never arrive in time, it lapses.
- Act 314 of 2024 directs Louisiana agencies to cooperate with ICE.
Search the ICE detainee locator by A-number with birth country. ICE's New Orleans Field Office: 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087, detention line 888-351-4024.
↑ Back to the question list24. How can I get release alerts?
The jail's own listing offers one way to be told. On the IPSO inmate listing, choose "Notify Me of Status Change" to get an alert when that entry changes. You can also register with Louisiana VINE, which calls, texts or emails you when custody changes.
↑ Back to the question list25. How do I spot a bail scam?
An Iberia deputy will not phone demanding gift cards, crypto or app payments to free your relative. Hang up on anyone who does and dial the jail at 337-369-2431 yourself.
↑ Back to the question list26. Which police agencies make arrests in Iberia Parish?
