Upon arrival at an intake location, the booking process is completed with fingerprints, information gathering, a mug shot, and then an assessment is conducted to ensure that not only any emergency or immediate medical needs are cared for but also ongoing medical care is arranged, and mental health assessments are completed to ensure that mental health support is also arranged to begin immediately or as needed.
Once the assessments have been completed, the information entered into their file, and booking has been completed, a housing assignment will be determined that will ensure the correct level of security, that they are not assigned to housing with anyone else involved in the same case, and that puts them with other inmates who have a similar history. This method of housing creates the safest environment for everyone, and to determine if someone you know is in the intake facility or in a detention center, they can be contacted at 410-878-3500.
During a stay in the intake facility, Maryland Reception, Diagnostic and Classification Center all inmates are prepared for their transfer as the intake is a temporary holding location and they will be sent to a more permanent facility after their trial or to the pre-trial housing.
Mail is permitted and can be sent to:

The first thing every newly arrested person must do is close their mouth. Everything an offender says may be used against them, so the best thing to do is remain silent when questioned about the arrest and what led to it.
