Overseen by the Macomb County Executive Office, the Macomb Juveniles Justice Center has a 140 bed secure detention center that offers both short term and long term care. It houses youth who are between the ages of 10 and 17 years old, both those who are waiting for their court date or adjudication, and those who have already been adjudicated and were assigned to the facility for a term of detention. During any detention the staff are responsible for the care and education of the juveniles, and this involves many services and programs throughout. Food services provide healthy meals based upon the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, and they are prepared onsite with a professional staff and commercial kitchen. Mental health services are provided to both those in treatment and those in detention, with mandatory therapy sessions for some and in some, including mandatory family counseling. Medical care is also provided onsite with transportation to offsite locations for additional care as required. Education services are provided by the local public school and ensure that they are able to attend school during their detention.
