⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessThe existing Macomb County Jail has a 12 story tower with 900 beds and an annex that was added in 1998 which boasts 200 beds, creating a current capacity of 1500 with plans to add another 303 beds in the expansion to be finished in 2027.
This expansion will provide a new intake are that will focus on the mental health of all those who are arriving during their intake and booking process. After an assessment they will continue to the classification process during which they will be assigned to an appropriate housing unit where they will remain until they are released after serving a sentence, or if they are determined to not require detention at their court hearing.
Within the expansion there will also be a detox unit and a medical wing expansion, adding to the current medical care that they provide. All detainees receive needed medical attention immediately upon arrival, and they will be provided with ongoing care during the entirety of their stay. The Macomb County Jail is the responsibility of the local Sheriff, and they provide all staff and functions within.
Healthy meals are provided three times each day, and there will be laundry services weekly, mail is delivered daily, and recreational opportunities are available. Inmates may also attend classes for further education as well as receive full medical care, mental health care, and a safe environment in which to serve their sentence. After classes have finished and programming is done for the day inmates are able to contact their family or friends through outgoing phone calls. Inmates are also able to reply to any mail they receive.

Currently visits at the annex have been paused, and they are only able to access video visitations at this time, with all inmates throughout the jail being allowed 2 visits each week which may be up to 30 minutes in length. Visits are scheduled online through /city-and-county-jails/michigan/macomb-county/macomb-county-jail/visit-an-inmate and the days and times will vary depending upon the schedule and responsibilities of the individual inmate.
Once arrested, the person is taken to Macomb County Jail for booking, a process that confirms identity, assesses charges, and determines if they will be released on their own recognizance, posted for bail, or held until court.

Understanding the rules completely are the responsibility of both you and your inmate. Not knowing the rules will NOT be accepted as an excuse if you make a mistake and violate them. Disobeying them could result in being banned from have future visits.
• Any inmate or visitor whose behavior is disruptive during a visit may have his/her visiting privileges suspended/terminated.
• All visits are subject to monitoring and recording.
• All visits must be scheduled 6 hours prior to the appointment or up to 13 days in advance.
• You must check-in 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit.
• Valid picture identification (e.g., driver's license, State I.D., or Military I.D. with picture) is required of all visitors, with the exception of children under the age of 17.
• Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied and supervised by an authorized adult visitor.
• Visitors who 'arrive' after the scheduled start time may not be allowed to visit.
• Clothing must cover all private/sensitive body areas.
• The visitation schedule may be canceled or altered on holidays or for safety/security reasons.
• Macomb County Jail can disconnect, deny, change, or cancel a visit at any time.
• Internet connectivity issues during offsite visits will NOT be refunded.
• Each visitation session will show a timer to display elapsed time.
• After your visit has ended your connection will be terminated automatically.

The Macomb County Jail allows inmates to receive pre-metered postcards like the type purchased from the post office. They may also allow certain photo postcards as long as they have not been tampered with or contain images that may be considered to be obscene or violent in nature.

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate. Five items max.
Books
The Macomb County Jail does not allow books to be mailed directly to the jail. You can buy them on commissary only.
