The East Central Regional Juvenile Detention Center serves the surrounding area including Anoka County. Each of the up to 36 juveniles who are in the facility will have a private cell for sleeping and privacy, with all youth being 10 or older and 18 or younger, with those who are over 18 attending the local adult facility. Both male and female youth are assigned to the facility, and they will have separate housing areas. The facility also includes classrooms for regular schooling to continue, with access to a GED or diploma, and in some cases college credits. A gymnasium and other spaces offer recreation and physical education inside the building, while outdoor recreation spaces provide areas for activities outside as well. Only short term programs are offered, with the lengths of the programs being 30 days, 60 days, or 90 days. Additionally, the location is used for those waiting for a court date, those who are waiting to be transferred to another placement, a weekend program that sees youth attend only on the weekend, and programs to encourage positive choices and decisions.
