McLeod County Jail

For inmate information at any hour of the day or night, call the 59-bed McLeod County Jail at 320-864-5191.

When someone is arrested in this county for a misdemeanor or felony, they are taken to this jail for booking and processing. If the charges call for it, they stay here until they post bond, are released on their own recognizance, or are ordered held until their trial is resolved.

To see who is currently being held, check the facility’s roster with the inmate search tool.

A sentence of less than one year is served here in the county jail. Anyone sentenced to more than a year is sent to the Minnesota State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

On this page you’ll find how to search the official jail roster, directions to the jail, and details on inmate services, including the visitation schedule and rules, putting money on an inmate’s account, sending letters, inmate phone calls, voicemail, email and text messaging, tablet rentals, posting bail, and ordering commissary.

Write down the inmate’s booking number or jail ID as soon as you find it, since you’ll often need it to send mail or set up communication. If it isn’t listed online, call McLeod County Jail at 320-864-5191 and ask for it.

In 2018 an expansion to the Law Enforcement Addition, where the McLeod County Jail is located on the second floor, added a courthouse and new law enforcement sections. This added 19 beds to bring the capacity to 59 beds, provided a larger intake area, visitation space, and added office for both the jail and the sheriff. It is at this location that all misdemeanor and felony offenders of McLeod County will wait for their trial when unable to access bail and where they will serve their sentence as provided by the court.

Qualified inmates may engage in the work release or inmate worker programs to remain working and gaining experience during incarceration while home detention allows offenders to serve their sentence at home with a GPS tracker.

Upon intake, the booking process is completed, which includes a medical screening, fingerprinting and mugshots, DNA sample, along with an assessment to determine security needs, medical needs, mental health requirements, and housing assignment.

Staff is available to transport all inmates to court dates and any medical appointments or emergency needs, as well as inspecting all mail for contraband, receiving commissary funds and other money for inmates, maintaining the safety of the community and the security of the facility, and other tasks.

The McLeod County Jail also provides several other services to inmates including basic needs in meals, laundry, and hygiene items, and programs including AA, counseling, religious programs, education, recreation, and opportunities to grow social and life skills.

Along with the efforts made by the staff, reduced recidivism is seen when inmates are able to stay in contact and supported by their family or friends who are not incarcerated so mail, phones, and visits are provided.

Programs that are focused on rehabilitation and gaining life and social skills include GED, further education, chemical abuse counseling, library access, religious guidance, and recreational activities, along with medical and mental health care for all inmates.

Onsite visits are scheduled in advance by calling the McLeod County Jail at 320-864-5191 while video visits are accessed online with visiting hours for onsite being Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday 12pm-3pm and Wednesday 6pm-9pm. Video visiting hours are 7am to 3pm and 5pm to 10pm every day.

What is the booking process for the McLeod County Jail?

After being arrested, the offender is brought to the McLeod County Jail for booking, which is the detailed process of identifying, classifying, deciding on charges, and whether the person will either be released on their own recognizance, allowed to be released on bail, or moved into the jail until their court date.

The first thing every newly arrested person must do is close their mouth. Everything an offender says may be used against them, so the best thing to do is remain silent when questioned about the arrest and what led to it.

These are the steps of booking someone into the McLeod County Jail:

  • Personal identification.
  • Mugshot(s).
  • Questions about medical history, mental health, drug and alcohol use, and gang affiliations.
  • Possible DNA.
  • Full body search.
  • Property forfeiture.
  • Free phone call.

If you have any questions about when you can pay an offender's bond and what the cost will be, call the facility at 320-864-5191.

How do you pay bail for someone who has been arrested in McLeod County?

When an offender is arrested and brought to the McLeod County Jail in Glencoe for booking, there are several outcomes after being processed.

1. The offender will be released with no bail, promising to return on a specific date to appear before a judge in either Municipal or McLeod County Court.
2. The offender is ordered to remain in jail until their court date.
3. The offender is allowed to be released after paying a specified bond or bail.  Call 320-864-5191 to get the exact amount.

The payment of an offender's bail or bond can take many shapes.

  • A cash bond is paid in full at the jail's bonding window or the clerk of court, usually by cash, cashier's check or money order, and many jails also take debit or credit cards through a lobby kiosk or an online bond vendor for an added fee; bring the inmate's full name and booking number, and the jail's number is 320-864-5191.
  • It can be paid using a bail company, licensed to do business in McLeod County.
  • Many courts accept land or a home as bond collateral; the owner shows clear title and equity of at least the bond amount, often double, using a deed and a recent tax or appraisal value, and the court that set bail approves the property.
