Camden County Juvenile Detention Center is located in Blackwood, NJ, and serves both that county and others in the surrounding area. The mission statement is to provide a safe and secure environment htat allows the residents to remain engaged in the programs and activities that are focused on intervention, educational opportunities, and mentoring to reduce recidivism. All basic needs are provided other than sneakers, and those with skin conditions may have soap and deodorant dropped off along with a pair of sneakers that fit. Within the first 3 days after arrival each of the residents will receive a physical, and will be seen by a nurse within 24 hours, with all medical needs being cared for on an ongoing basis throughout their stay. Schooling occurs every weekday and they will be tested to determine what grade work and assignments will be appropriate. Mail: 8 South Woodbury-Turnersville Road Blackwood, NJ 08012 Photographs of illegal activity, sexual nature, or negative acts will not be permitted, but letters and pictures are permitted through the mail system. A social worker will open all incoming mail with the resident and check the contents for contraband or banned topics, and the residents are provided with supplies to write to friends and family. Phones: Upon arrival each resident is permitted to make one phone call every day of 5 minutes, and this will change based upon their level in the behavioral program. Parents and guardians may receive phones calls. Residents may not receive calls other than those from their legal representation, and most phone time is during free hours in the evening. Visitation: Parents, guardians, grandparents, and children of the residents are permitted to visit on each visiting day, and residents will not be denied visits unless they are being disruptive or are a risk to the safety of the staff, other residents, or the visitors.
