About the Guadalupe County Jail & Sheriff
The Sheriff in Guadalupe County oversees the safety and the security of the surrounding community, and makes arrests as needed, enforces all local laws, and works with other law enforcement agencies when needed. There is a small holding area for any detainees when they are first arrested, and they may be booked into that facility with their mug shot, fingerprints, charges, and identifying information. Each of these detainees will be permitted a phone call to a lawyer or to a friend or family member to obtain counsel, and will then learn of their bail. Those who are unable to make bail, who are serving an extended sentence, or who require increased security measures, will be transferred to the nearby Guadalupe County Correctional Center. The Correctional Center was finished in 1999 and houses all of the local inmates before and after their sentencing. Outgoing phone calls can be made to family and friends at either facility, and for those who are staying longer than a few weeks there will be opportunities for visits with family. For security reasons the days and times of visits are not published, and the schedule can be accessed only by contacting the facility direction to schedule a visit. Inmates may not receive incoming phone calls but they can receive and respond to mail, including photographs that are 4x6 or smaller and that are not polaroid or of inappropriate subjects.
