About the Union County Jail & Sheriff
Constructed in 2007, this 179,000 square foot building houses both male and female inmates for short and long term sentences, as well as pretrial detainees. It is located just outside of Clayton, NM, and is fully up to date with security measures and supervisory programs. There are several law enforcement agencies that access the facility and the large capacity makes it suitable for partnerships with smaller cities and towns that do not have their own full service facilities. There are several programs provided to support inmates with learning and expanding their education, addictions treatments, and learning new skills, along with access to mail, phone calls, commissary purchases, and visits with friends and family. Inmate mail: All mail is sent to a central processing location where it is opened and checked for contraband, then electronically delivered to the receiving inmates.
