The Livingston County Jail houses inmates who are offenders arrested in Livingston County that have recently been arrested for a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.

It is the Corrections Division of the Sheriff’s Office that operates the facility with both full time and part time staff, some being correctional officers and others being civilians operating food and other services. Found in Geneseo, NY, the Livingston County Jail is focused on security, safety, and maintaining a high training standard for all staff serving Livingston County. While all minimum standards are met, an effort is made to surpass those standards whenever possible, and each inmate is treated equally and humanely.

As both medical care and mental health care are expected and provided, so is dental care, religious services, substance abuse counselling, and educational services. These are all intended to look after the welfare of the inmates and to provide skills that will be beneficial and useful outside of the facility when they have finished their sentence. Those who are outside of the faculty can also support their friends or family who are incarcerated, and through visiting and phone calls they are able to improve the mental health of the inmates and improve the safety of the staff and inmates.

The first way that they can be supported is through adding money to their account in the lobby at the window or the kiosk, or online, which will allow them to purchase items they need.

There are also phones present in each of the housing units that will allow inmates to make outgoing calls only to those who are willing to take calls from them, and they will have access to phones during their dayroom hours, which can be funded online.

The last way to provide support is through visiting, with visits being Tuesdays, 8:00am-11:30am Pod B, 1:15pm-2:30pm F wing, Wednesday 8:00am-11:30am A Pod, 1:15pm-3:30pm C Dorm, Thursday 8:00am-2:15pm B Pod, and Friday 8:00am-10:15 C Dorm, 10:30-3:30pm A Pod.

Each inmate is allowed two visits each week, which can be booked online.

Understanding the booking process at Livingston County Jail

After an arrest, individuals are taken to Livingston County Jail where they go through booking. This process includes identifying the person, reviewing charges, and determining whether they will be released on their own, eligible for bail, or detained until their court date.

It’s crucial to remain silent after being arrested. Anything said may be used in court, so it’s better to refrain from speaking until consulting with an attorney.

The following steps outline the booking procedure at Livingston County Jail:

  • Personal identification verification.
  • Taking photographs (mugshots).
  • Medical and mental health assessment, as well as inquiries about substance use.
  • Possibly collecting DNA samples.
  • Performing a full-body search.
  • Seizing personal belongings for safekeeping.
  • Allowing one phone call.

Booking can take from a short hour to longer periods, especially on busy nights or with uncooperative individuals. For inquiries about posting bond for an arrestee, call the facility at 585-243-7180.

Paying bail for someone in custody in Livingston County

Once someone is booked at Livingston County Jail in Geneseo after an arrest, there are several outcomes:

1. They may be released without paying bail, agreeing to show up on a scheduled date.
2. They may remain in custody until their court appearance.
3. They can pay a bail or bond for release. Call 585-243-7180 for bail details.

Bail payments can take several forms.

  • The full cash bond is paid at the jail's bonding window or at the clerk of court using cash, a cashier's check or a money order, while many jails add a card option at a lobby kiosk or through an online bond service for a fee; bring the inmate's full name and booking number, and call the jail at 585-243-7180 with questions.
  • A licensed bail bond agent in Livingston County can help cover bail.
  • Many courts take real estate as security for a bond; the property owner must show clear title plus equity at least equal to the bond, often twice it, backed by a deed and a recent tax or appraisal value, and the court that set the bail gives final approval.
